OT.......Paypal Question

I have been trying to delete an old CC from my paypal info with no luck. I have listed the new card and I can and have used it to pay BUT, paypal defaults to my old (expired) CC every time.

This is a problem for me because I have a couple of auto payments monthly using Paypal and of course they do not get paid because the old card is defunct.

When I try and delete the old card I get this message: "You may not remove your funding source while an authorization is still pending."

My new card is also shown on paypal as the Primary payment method.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

No clue. I would give PayPal a call... that usually gets things resolved relatively quickly.

It sounds like you may have to cancel the auto-payments before you remove the card. I would think this would remove any pending authorizations.

You can probably edit the auto payments to use your new card. Once they are all changed, your old card should delete easily.

  • Thanks folks.

There are NO pending payments, and not for a long time but I thank you for the advice

I thought you said you had monthly auto-payments? Those would probably be seen by paypal as pending payments. It seems like it is trying to get you to keep that credit card so the auto-payments work, but in reality it is doing the opposite.
  • I had to cancel those Dan. I am sorry I was not clear.

I travel at times and am away from the puter so I was missing the mail I was getting from Paypal about a card not being good. So I stop the auto payment.
The auto would be very good for me, if I was smart enough to get this right

In order to to 'release' the defunct credit card, you'll need to add a new card and initialize it as your primary card...then you'll be allowed to remove the old card.
  • Did that months ago, but thank you for the advice

Don't they have a toll-free number from Denmark? Or how about the help desk on their internet site?

Just a random thought: did you receive a new 4 digit number from paypal for your new cc? The one that comes with the credit card bill when you list a new card at paypal (and a one off $1.50 charge that is later refunded). Without it, it's impossible to make it your primary one.

Not sure I did or not. Can not remember. When I open my Papal it is listed (the new card) as the primary one.

But, if I try and pay someone the card that comes up is the old defunct one.

I'm being a pest about this I know, but I DO NOT like, not being able to pay folks when they should be paid.........I'm talking the auto pay option.

Thannks everyone for the advice and help.
