Sell The Card, Not The Holder?!

We've heard it a million times - Buy the card, not the holder. I think this is most often referenced where the slab says, for example, "PSA 9," but the card appears to be a PSA 7 or 8. Now if you were selling that same card, would your asking price be the slabbed PSA 9 or the appearance of a PSA 7 or 8? I think we all know the answer to that one.

If you were putting it on auction, the buyers would decide the price.

There are many people out there who do not buy the card and not the holder, so I think the price would certainly be higher than that of a 7 or 8 if the card is in a 9 holder.

I have been talking to some of my local traders about this very same topic - so here we go - take a long hard look at page 135 of the most recent SMR - there is no way that card is a PSA 10 - it is blurry and has print marks all over - take a look at the SGC 98 - that is the card to own - this is a perfect example of buying the grade and not the card - the SGC card was the real deal - because break it out and submit to PSA ...
