Here is a PCGS Doily Insert slabbed coin 1900 $5 AU-58 - Careful slow loading pics

CAREFUL THIS THREAD WAS STARTED IN THE YEAR 2007!!!!
I just acquired this lovely coin from a fellow PCGS board member. This is an example of conservative grading but also does not pay to crack out for a higher grade. These doily inserts are becoming harder and harder to find.

Now green CAC stickered.

These doily holders are an example of the plastic slowly becoming more important than the coin itself!
Amen, brother. Now if you just had that coin in a black NGC slab...you'd be cookin' for certain!

Those old Hallmark slabs are still ot there but they are in the top twenty famous slabs to have and are slowly appreciating as well in value premium-wise.
Greg: <<<<<Amen, brother. Now if you just had that coin in a black NGC slab...you'd be cookin' for certain! >>> You are so right.
I must admit when it comes to the doily holder I have fallen for the plastic as well. I have a common 37-D Oregon in a doily graded 66 and IMO it is a 67+ all day long. But since the jump in value is only a couple hundred bucks I'm keeping the plastic.

INTERESTING HOW PCGS DOILY/DOILYS/DOILIES (HOW DO YOU REALLY SPELL THESE????) ARE REALLY STARTING TO RAMP UP!!!!
Very precious few remaining doily slabs have ever gotten a gold sticker as the vast majority had been cracked out long ago but the remaining ones are generally very PQ for the grade.
Very nice looking coin in a cool holder
On the other hand, my wife only likes it when I sell not buy. But then again, isn't that par for the course?
Not so sure about that $5 gold that sold on eBay two months ago though . . .I bet that plastic has loooong since been relegated to a landfill and the new (coinshop) owners are revelling in a higher grade. Oh well . . . I think a couple of us will preserve them.
Oreville . .thinking about sending mine in to the green-beaners. I understand from past threads that you did and were happy with the results. I think it might be fun to send them and then do a post on the results. Just for fun.
OK, in between airplanenut yesterday and now oreville . . . I am appropriately put in my place.
Nice Doilies gents!
