Just bought a box of 1975 Mini's need some help

I just bought a case of 1975 mini's off of Ebay. The seller is sounding like he won't let me do a local pickup even though I am in his town multiple times a month. What do you think I should do?

Got an item number as I can only find one completed auction for a case The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale.

Tell the seller that you are willing to give him the opened wax and gum so he can reseal them and sell them again to another unsuspecting person in the near future....he will let you pick up the stuff for sure!

I give you a B+ for effort and a C for execution. Try harder next time- really sell it.

That's what I was thinking when I spotted this.

Something really smells with this one.

Gotta agree with Lee here. Not sure if this was Gary mocking us or someone messing with Gary--the ID gave it away
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

This is a joke by a board member. That's why I was giving him a B+ for effort and a C for execution. Judging by the response (most people aren't getting it), I'm pushing it down to a D.

Although if you are actually the high bidder, it's an automatic A.

paypal is only offering $200 protection on his stuff. it's bad when paypal is on to you.
  • Here is what I emailed the seller and her responses.

    Message from me

I will be in Clovis next week on business and would like to pick it up in person. I don't trust the shipping companies with an item this expensive. Let me know if that will work for you. I am in Fresno every week with my job, I manage all of the Walgreen's in the area but only make it into Clovis maybe twice a month. But I can always make an extra trip for this.

    Response

    Hello
I understand wanting to pick up this item. But we would send it fed ex overnight to you insured so there would not be a problem. Normally I would consider pick up. But 1 we are leaving for vac jul 16-aug 12 so would need to ship this before we leave. 2 with an item of this value we only like to ship this way we have a record of the transaction through the shipping company . With local pickup theres no record for us to prove you ever recieved the item.
Please advise what you would like to do.
    Sincerly
    Stephanie

My response to the ?month? long vacation

I would really like to pick it up. Fed Ex is the worst. Can't say so much for any of them. The reason I bid so high is I figured I could pick it up. What are the odds of pick up before you go? I could always pay via cashiers check so then you are protected from delivery receipt through paypal
  • I am a little confused by all of the funky responses here. Are you saying he does not have the box and I am getting swindled? Or what? I have not sent any payment yet. Really want to pick it up.

Gary makes a yearly trip cross country buying unopened product. That must explain the long vacation. I doubt Gary wrote that response - not enough typos in there.

  • Just looking for Help Guys. Looks like I need to file against Ebay now if this is not legit. What is the best route?

It looks like no one believes me that I won this box. I can take a pic of my Ebay message inbox, high bidder list and send it off to one of you guys to post on the thread. Will that work. You can match my 39 feedback to the amount of the private winner. This is what I get for bidding on only two items in the past year. This case and a PSA Pete Rose that was an CSA Bait and Switch by seller Erin Stubby. Amazing bad luck with Ebay.

there are several class action lawsuits against Gary, just join one of those.
  • I would email the seller and explain that you are the executor of an estate with no living heirs. So you would be willing to wire him and additional 10K, if he would kindly wire you back 5K of the extra for his time and effort.

Save your money. You can rest assured there is a very specific reason he doesn't want you picking that case up in person. Have you read the sellers feedback?
  • JeremyDie1JeremyDie1 Posts: 2,383 ✭✭✭
This eightiesjunkie guy is very confused. Card collecting may be a little to complicated for him.
  • stownstown Posts: 11,321 ✭✭✭
If you are being serious, I would insist on picking it up in person.

Drive down there ASAP and offer to get the invoice notarized, filmed, whatever. With him leaving on the 16th, you have plenty of time.

    One note of caution.

    BEWARE OF SWAPPED PACKS.

Edited to add: You know that you bought a box and not a case (as the thread suggests), right?

  • Thans S-Town. Switched the title to box for the thread. So, what is the best way to not get a non paying bidder strike?
  • nam812nam812 Posts: 10,602 ✭✭✭✭✭
Has anyone noticed that Leiascards has not weighed in yet. The biggest supporter of not driving up the bids is now attempting to make you guys feel like you got an honest bidder in hot water. Shame on anyone who believes this thread is not Leiascards playing you all.

  • Thanks for the Help Guys. Just sent this off..

    Hello

    Stephanie,

After talking with a few of my collecting friends they believe that this box is searched and/or the packs may have been swapped from other boxes. I am not going to complete the transaction. I was pointed to a few of your previous auctions that buyers claim your 1989 CASE of Fleer did not have one Griffey or others that were opened. I will not be sending any payment for this item. You can file a mutally agreed completion of the transaction without payment. I will agree to that and you can get your fees back.

    Thanks for the help again.

No one agrees with my post above that this is Leiascards having some fun with you guys?
  • Not paying for this box will prove to be the smartest thing you've ever done, of course assuming you did win this auction in the first place.

Gary (ie. Stephanie) is a slimy, morbidly obese, con-man, who screwed many people on these boards out of hundreds of dollars.

Please tell me you guys don't believe this is legit. There are way too many coincidences here. 1) This auction was just discussed here a few days ago. 2) The high bidder just happens to find and join this site after winning the auction. 3) The user name he chose is way too close to Gary's user name, just remove the p & l at the end and it is exactly the same. This guy is so full of crap his eyes are brown. Just ny opinion.
