Skyman coin!! Sunglasses needed...
So now that I am back I have been taking photos ASAP of some coins I was sent to photo. 3 of the coins are from the BC collection. Anyhow he had some images of the coins before they were sent to me which I will refer to as coin art. Very pretty pictures that bring out the color well, but lack the luster. Here is the image of the coin. (Photo by Laura D.)

Now Here are the images of the same coin I took. Enjoy and comment away!

<< <i>Here's my comment. What in the world camera set up did you use to shoot the photo of the large Morgan? WHAT A SHOT! Great technical shot.

I agree. That is incredible.
Nice coin by the way.

<< <i>Great Picture! The colors on that coin are magnificant >>
To be honest of the 3 BC coins sent this is not even the best one as far as color goes if you ask me.
If I were to ask you, Bruce, which of the 3 BC coins would have the nicest color? ( any reply without pictures is worthless.
This is my fav one as far as color goes..
Personally I like the 1886 because the coin is white from Liberty's face to the lower left. The color starts right at her hairline and increases in intensity to the rim at 2 O'Clock.
<< <i>How'd you do that? Those are great photos! >>
There is no real secret to good photos but I will give you 3 tips..
1. Know your Camera and lighting.
2. Know your surrondings
3. Takes lots of photos and do not give up.
If you can master all 3 of those I am sure you will get some photos you are happy with.
don't know..... no comment..... may be?

Awesome pix Bro.
Yeah, I just wanted to say "Hi" & that the pix are great!
Also, what's up with the area in front of Miss L's face? Was there a light cleaning in that area to remove dirt or debris? Something going on there ...
Just another example of why I always say:
1) You can NOT grade from images; and
2) You can NOT trust images to represent the appearance of a coin accurately.
The same coin can appear TOTALLY different (and can even appear to have a totally different grade) in two different images.
Other than that, nice coin !!

<< <i>Fascinating how all the abrasions on the cheek are somehow missing from the first pic, or are very much less prominent ...

I have to agree with you. We all know a good image will bring out every tiny hit. Coins when tilted may show different hits or magnify some more than others. All in all I think the images I took are a fairly good representation of the coin. Coin is NGC MS63* Battlecreek Collection

I'd have to check on the area in front of Liberty's face to refresh my memory, but it definitely is not a cleaning, if anything there is some light gunk there, or the heal of a palmprint.
The lighting set-up that Bruce has chosen for this image accurately brings out the colors of the coin. However, it also definitely brings out every hit, ding and rub on the coin. Here is the write-up from the auction catalogue, and while I find most catalogue descriptions full of blather this one is actually pretty accurate... "Massive shadings of purple and blue give way ever so begrudgingly to gold with sky blue then silvery white across the obverse in several lessening bands. This coin, despite a few bagmarks, bears a striking resemblance to a MS64 dollar in overall quality of luster and strike."... The coin is a bit baggy, but if you were to see it in hand you would see why the cataloguer was talking about a MS64 look. IMO the MS63* grade is accurate.
