What do you think this should grade, and is there any reason to think it might be cleaned (color is much lighter in-hand)?

Market XF40. The image seems to show dark toning on the high points along with a finger print. That could be an indication of a dip. But I can't tell from the pics. Pope's strike survey indicates that 1921 nickels often come well-struck and yours is no exception.

Nice coin.

I would say it has EF details or better...but the horn does not look full to the tip...and the 1921 "P" is usually a coin that is seen well struck more often than not....so I would agree with Shamika and say a strong VF-35...pretty coin though, I like the original look.

My first reaction is a 40-45, but it is difficult to tell from the photo. Also, it is difficult to tell if it has been cleaned without seeing it in hand.
