Great thread ......I have about 300 hundred hostess panels of 75...76..77..78...79 and some un cut boxs. I still think there cool, they bring me back to being a kid again.
I'm pretty much a fan of anything that Hostess produced in the 1970's!! I think that one of my favorite Hostess cards is the '78 Rod Carew in the classic Twin's uniform.
There are two types of people in this world; those who like Neil Diamond, and those who don't. My ex-wife loves him!!
I picked up this nice 1969 Transogram hand cut Tom Seaver as a "buy it now" for $50. It was not cut very well. You can see the excess amount of room outside of the border. I plan on cracking it out and have it recut so it has a closer border around the dotted lines.
<< <i>be very careful, if you even TOUCH the dotted line, it will only grade authentic --0.....i have submitted over 50 hand cut cards over the years... >>
Redlegs is about as precise and exacting as can be when it relates to cutting these panels and hand cut cards. Consistently does a super duper professional job.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
I use a paper cutter very similar to the one you see below in the link I have attached. Make sure you use a paper cutter in which "swing arm" is very rigid and not prone to moving from left to right. You also need to cut as close to the dotted lines as possible as well as having a consistent cut around all four sides.
Quick question: with regard to panels (even box bottoms), if you were going to single out the cards to cut... if you followed PSA standards and cut just outside the line, wouldn't the cards surrounding it be worthless (ie Authentic only)?

<< <i>Quick question: with regard to panels (even box bottoms), if you were going to single out the cards to cut... if you followed PSA standards and cut just outside the line, wouldn't the cards surrounding it be worthless (ie Authentic only)? >>
From my experience, PSA requires that all of the lines be present around the perimeter of the card. That is why the 1969 Nabisco set cards are so hard to find in gradeable condition as the cards shared common borders.
With the help of Rich Noonan, I have been able to add three difficult panels to my 1975 set (link above) which puts me at 94%. Getting closer to the finish line.
You appear to be the hands down expert when it comes to hand cut cards. I have quite a few 1977 Hostess boxes. I want to have the panels cut and send them to PSA for grading to work on upgrading my 1977 Hostess Hand Cut Panels Registry collection. While my collection is complete, it has much upgrading needed.
Would you mind sharing the secret to a top quality cut from PSA's perspective? I would hate to cut all these panels and get them back as Authentic, due to not cutting them the way in which they expect.
Hi Chris, I have included an example of one of my PSA 10 panels so you can see what PSA considers a quality cut. I like to leave a little white space around the dotted lines but always ensure that it is consistent around each side. I also have a link to the type of paper trimmer that I use. I like to use one that has a sturdy wooden base. The blade arm also needs to not have any give from side to side to prevent miscuts. I have considered buying a cutter that has a laser light included for more accuracy in lining up cuts. Amazon has those as well.
Chris, I was looking at your 1977 Hostess panel set. The first three panels in your set with Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, and Pete Rose are all candidates for recutting and submitting back to PSA. I think you can get much better grades than PSA 6. There is an excess amount of room around the white lines.
On one occasion I bought a 1975 Hostess panel with Joe Morgan in a PSA 7. I cracked it opened, recut it, and submitted it to PSA. It came back a PSA 10.
Just got my first poppage today with Hostess hand cuts. I went with cards, rather than panels (maybe a mistake) and followed the advice here on the boards. They look very much like the 10 panel shown above. Results are (I am guessing the 3 5s had surface issues I missed):

STORAGE QUESTION: I need suggestions/advice as to how to properly/securely store my PSA grade larger cards/panels. I have the "shoe box" type storage holders for the regular graded cards. Are there boxes of this nature large enough to safely store the larger PSA graded cards, such as the Donruss All Star sets from the 1980s or the Hostess Panels?
Thanks for the help, Chris
I only need 18 cards to complete the Don Mattingly Master collection. Help would be great!
I recently had these panels graded by PSA. I finally decided to cut up some of my unused complete boxes.

After about 10 years working on this set I have finally completed my 1975 Hostess Panel set. A special thanks to Jack Bednarcik "Goochster12" in selling me the last panel I needed.

It was quite a challenge to complete. My set was dormant for long stretches of time without finding suitable panels for grading. I still have room to upgrade on a few panels. I would like to complete the 1976 panel set as my next goal.
I know what you mean about the upgrading. My 1977 Hostess panel set is complete, but has MUCH room for improvement. My overall goal is to complete it in ALL PSA 10 grade - a long way to go still. Please let me know if you come across any graded panels for sale or higher quality raw panels.
Thanks and congratulations again, Chris

Sure I can help you out with that. I have helped out a few others with cutting panels in the past. Send me a private message and we can work out the details.
Wow these are some great cards. Thanks for sharing the cards with us and awesome job on the cuts. Is anyone making a 1959 Bazooka set in football or baseball? I have seen very inconsistant grading from SGC on this issue (believe it or not). I am working on a 1959 Bazooka football set (numerical grades only) where the black line is completely showing on all sides. PSA seems to be extremely hard on this issue which is why they have not graded many. If anyone has 1959 Bazooka cards with a number grade, please contact me. I also have a couple of duplicates that I would trade as well.
Looking for high grade rookie cards and unopened boxes/cases
Just wanted to know everyone 's thoughts on the current 1968 Tipps From Topps Bazooka's currently being offered on E-Bay by 4 - Sharp Corners.................they are Psa 10's ............but only show the players pictures..............not ' The Tipps From Topps ' info on playing baseball ! Seems to me these should have only been graded as ' Authentic ' ..................since they are incomplete without the illustrations ????? At the very least , a distinction should have been noted on the label as not being a true Tipps From Topps ...........plus they are also distorting the true population numbers of a complete panel ! If anyone could provide a scan from E-Bay ( still have not figured out how to to that ) .........it would be much appreciated and would show what I'm talking about ! Thanks in advance ! Robbie
