Should PCGS give MS70 for ASEs over 10 yr. old??

It would seem the risk of milk spots should decline with time to the point where after say 10 years or so they could feel safe in assigning a MS70 grade.

<< <i>I think if a coin is worthy of the 70 grade at time of submission,it should be given that grade. Why can't they just put a disclaimer in thier guarantee that if milk spots develope, then all bets are off on the guarantee. >>
I AGREE!
<< <i>Anyone have some pics of milk spots? I wonder if this is similar to some spots I recently discovered on a bunch of my slabbed coins when light hits them just right...? Some of the one's I am thinking of are silver, some clad. >>
Are they small white blotches or tiny tick marks. If they are blotches on Silver Coins....chances are good they are milk spots...

The coin in this auction has milk spots
They cannot be removed.

They do produce them without milkspots. However, it is speculated that the mint has a faulty rinsing system that leaves the coins vulnerable to spotting under the right set of circumstances (most notably high humidity). Spotted eagles are far more common in the south and the midwest than in the southwest. I haven't had any eagles I originally purchased from the US spot on me, but I have purchased many on the secondary market. Improper storage + the mint's faulty rinse process = spotted eagle, forever blemished.

That sounds like a common sense solution to me. It would also make PCGS money as those who prefer them would not be sending coins to NCG to get a possible MS-70

Kudos to that eBayer for being honest enough to mention the "milk spots".

What I think they should do is have an Acetone bath setup for all ASE's then grade them accordingly. I'd pay and extra 50 cents for that.
<< <i>I don't think they should. If it has not developed milk spots it is very possible it was just kept in very dry conditions. If it were to move locations for a bit it could be trouble.
