Which coin to sell?

Ok, here's a scenario. You have a 1939-S PCGS MS66 Walking Liberty Half (PQ old green holder coin) and a 1940-D PCGS MS66 Washington Quarter (PQ coin in new holder), and need to sell one of them. Which coin would you sell now? Which coin would you hold on to, and why? Thanks!

Keep the one you like the most, sell the one you like the least. Next question.

Sell them both and then use the funds to resubmit my Morgans.
This is a very dumb ass thread. - Laura Sperber - Tuesday January 09, 2007 11:16 AM image

If you like them equally, sell the one that it is easiest to replace. If one has a special quality (ie. attractive toning, unusually strong strike, superb luster, etc.) that makes it irreplacable to you, keep that one.

I'd sell them both...but if you're only going to sell one, then I agree with RYK. Sell the one that is the easiest to replace. image

Hold the Walker cause they're much nicer coins.

  • Market wise I don't know.

Personally I would keep the Walker because I like the design better and it is a larger coin. image

I would keep the Walker because I collect 1's and 1/2's not 1/4"s
  • Keep the 40 D .... The date is undervalued and will go up soon.

I heard a story once about a man who was reputed to be somewhat 'slow.' In addition to his eccentricites and poverty, a basis for this reputation was a test that many young people would regularly put to him: they would hold out a dime and a nickel together and tell him he could only take one, and when they did this the man invariable took the nickel since it was the larger of the two coins. Over the years, I knew a compassionate guy who befriended this man, and while he was eccentric and poor, and eventually occured to my friend that this guy had to know a nickel was worth more than a penny. Intrigued, he asked about it, and what the guy told him was that if he took the dime, the kids would stop giving him nickels.

So I say keep the half - its bigger.
