POLL: ARE THE LATER STATE QUARTERS BETTER?

Do you think the States that had a longer lead time came up with better designs for their quarters?

Pictures of the 50 State Quarters can be viewed here.

No, I don't really think any of the designs are really good. But I think the horribly low relief is a major part of the problem too.

No... while some are more 'acceptable' than others, they are basically state tourism advertisements or less. There is NO art in SHQ's. Cheers, RickO

    I think so.

Look at the designs by year or groups of years. quarterdesigns.com

While I think there are winners and losers in each year or groups, I think the body of work from say 2005-2008 as a whole is much more impressive to me than say the body of work from 1999-2001. I think the later states had the benefit of listening to the complaints and lessons of the states before them and learned from the mistakes.

ricko, I dunno about that. Here in Missouri, we have 3 guys in a Keelboat that looks like a rubber raft, floating in a (river?) with giant broccoli on both sides. One of them does have a coonskin cap on, though.

This is my LEAST favorite design...and it is my State!!

I like 80% of the designs, though. Many are very creative with designs that truely represent the essence of their state.

Where do you think that a set of the silver proofs will be in say 10 years. Not much greater of a premium than now?

I think they have gotten worse.

Too much vignettes and not enough single image reverses.

The designs have become cluttered in some cases and too politically correct in most.

Generally I think they improved over the program but I don't think it's
the longer lead times as much as the criticism of the earlier issues leading
    to improvements.

Didn't help Texas. Wow -- an outline of the state and a lone star over, say, Waco. Really imaginative and artistic...
