I like the reactions of people who don't collect when you tell them that you do, especially the ladies....yeah that's hot.

    Seriously collecting is better.

I like photographing other people's coins, so I guess that would mean that I enjoy dealing with others.

I like my coins a lot, but without the wonderful collectors and dealers you meet during the journey, what would be the point of filling up a safe deposit box with metal that will belong to someone else someday anyway...... the journey is the thing.

  • I like collecting more. Dealing with the people in the hobby is the worst part of the hobby. It's always a battle. The seller wants to get as much money from you as he can and you want to spend the least amount of money you can so there is always friction. Who will get the upper hand this time? Will you over pay or get a fair deal. You just have to deal with some real grumpy people who act like you are putting them out sometimes. if there weren't so many dishonest people in the hobby, I think a lot more people would enjoy it.

I always get the sense that dealers know something that I don't, and sometimes that concerns me. Other than that, things are fine.

Brother, I love to talk coin. I want a dealer who has a knowledge about what I want and is willing to talk about them. Also, I don't think it is possible to talk coin without wanting to collect them. One hand washes the other.

I like collecting.. dealing with dealers is hit and miss (some nice, some a$$holes). Fellow collectors have, for the most part, turned out to be great people.... so that part is an added bonus. Cheers, RickO

I pretty much enjoy the whole experience.

Buying coins is fun. Dealers are like every other human... some are good people, some are a pain in the rear. Generally a dealer who is a coin afficianado is much nicer to deal with than one who is in it as a business. Fellow collectors in general are very good people, but there are DEFINITELY a few who are tweaked. So, while I like to buy, and ogle, coins, the human side is what makes it nice... to be able to talk to people who understand what FBL means, who have their own passion for something numismatic.

What do you like more, collecting coins or dealing with the people in the hobby that you must buy and sell coins from?

My answer would vary from deal to deal.

Actually I like to just sit here typing away on my computer keyboard where if I ask a question I might actaully get a truthful answer-at least some of the time.. When you're dealing with dealers at a show the deal is that they want to sell you stuff, and in that case they might not always be frank.

Me too. I really like talking with the select few dealers I buy from. I also enjoy reading and posting messages on this board. I can also say my experiences interacting with fellow collectors has been great...in fact, I don't get a chance to do enough of that. But, most of all, I like the hunt and the satisfaction of finding and getting a coin for my collection! image

Definitely I prefer collecting coins. I do not enjoy buying from coin dealers. When I sell, it is either auction consignment, or sale to one of two dealers I have known for about fifteen years.

Nearly all my purchases the past few years have been auction lots.

I like the people I meet when I show up at their door to buy the collection they've owned for 50 years!
The stories and just listening to thier passion of collecting and then seeing their smiles when we come
to a price and shake hands. Most are so greatful and surprised that the coins they collected as a kid
are worth what they are today. Lot's of collections are just pennies, nickels and dimes and such from
the days when a dime meant a loaf of bread or a nickel was a cocacola and people bent over to pick up
a penny. Some have dollars and gold but most don't. But the pleasure of collecting stays with them to
the day they die. Love it!
