Question about the US Mint

i saw a coin that was made to honor this particular family. it had the family crest, etc. it was 250 grains of silver. (i know that is little more than 1/2 oz) My question is how do they get the mint to issue that and what do they charge for that service? this was done approximately 40 yrs. ago. thanks everybody for your help. it ws a beautiful coin.

Simple, it's not a US Mint product.

If it is specified in grains, it sounds like a Franklin Mint product.

Definitely not US Mint.... there are many sources of 'custom coins'.. Franklin Mint, as stated above... and a board member here makes his own designs (dcarr)... I would try his site or google 'custome coins'... Cheers, RickO
  • The US Mint did produce private medals for people in the past, but that was 19th century not 20th.
