Decided to go back to the school yard where I found the 1917 Canadian large cent a while back - we still haven't had much rain and the ground was even dryer than before. I had just got there when I almost passed up a faint signal by the walkway- glad I didn't, my first hole of the day would yield my best coin of the day, a bent 1865 Indian Head. This is my second oldest Indian found metal detecting- last year dug an 1864- interestingly enough it was also bent! Straightened it out the best I could for photo:
Needless to say my hopes were high, spent the next four hours working the playground over, got just over $4 in change, a couple of jewelry pieces and one odd button. Didn't think much of the button until I got it home and cleaned up some:
It has the motto "Spes Nostra Es Devs" which I found online means "God, you are our hope" . Not sure of age, but has a kinda cool bird in the middle as well. Just thought I would share these images with everyone. Might hit a newly created small park tonight, just saw them planting trees on the lot today- it was the former site of an old butcher shop and diner from way back. When they were demolishing the buildings years back a friend of mine found an 1859 on sidewalk, it has sat as an empty lot for the last ten years or so, now taken over by the village. Happy Hunting!

We badly need rain here as well. Ground's close to the concrete stage in places.
