Another Friday afternon and another 1979 OPC box rip

Well another Friday is upon us and the UPS man has seen fit to deliver me another 1979 OPC Wax box. I'm 12 packs in and it looks like the exact same cards as the last box (which probably means no Ozzie again), but thought I would post the highlights so far. Here you go.

I really like the Bench! He is one of my all time favorite players

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Those jagged, OPC edges are fantastic!

Makes me want to buy another. Those are better centered than last time. My Ryan was 95/5.
  • Okay 24 packs down, and here are the round 2 highlights, and mkg809 you just had to go and mention centering.

And what can I say about this one, other than oh what I give for another 1/16" of border on the right side.

  • Well here is the third and final installment of the 79 OPC box party, nothing overly great the last round. Might just have to make this a weekly adventure.

I can't tell by these scans, but aren't the OPC cards (at least in some years) bolder/more colorful looking than the Topps cards?

That's quite possible, as many years saw OPC printed on white card stock, while Topps stuck with their dirty gray for so many years. That was always the easiest way to tell them apart when I was a kid.
  • awesome cards! love the bench cards! i think i need one of those!

the first ryan looks great. glad you pulled an ozzie as well. makes you really appreciate the centered GEMS that are sometimes popped.

    Thanks,

    Love the OPC rough cut!

I understand that PSA will not penalize for the rough cut, but what if the cut is so rough the edges are jagged? I have a couple of 1973 OPCs I've been thinking about sending in and was just wondering...

That first Ryan you pulled has a great shot at a 9. I have an 8 at it doesn't look as nice as that raw one. If you decide to send those in for grading and would like to sell any of them, I would be interested in any 8s or better that I need for my set.

  • prscott933, I doubt I will send it in because of the centering, but I will probably keep it for my raw set
ledsters - I am going to submit about 10 of the OPC, and as far as the grades I guess it will depend on whether or not I get an OPC friendly grader

This has been fun, glad I could share it with you guys, after two boxes I am kind of hooked on these OPC cards I may have to do one more 79.
