If it was such an amazing deal, why did you say he got ripped off and why did you continue to focus on the poor condition of the cards rather than their actual market value? If it's such an amazing deal, why would you rather have a 50 cent John Smoltz rookie than a random 1952 Topps card of a guy you never heard of that you can easily sell for $40? You're really not making any sense at all.
The whole point I was trying to make was that your opinion was that the stuff xbaggy bought was junk, but you are incredibly enthusiastic about the $20 Tri Star packs which yield nothing but junk that you can get for .10 a card at any mall card show.
So to recap: before you said he got ripped off and the condition of the cards sucks. Now you're saying you'll never find a deal like this in 50 years? I'm just trying to make sense of it because no one here really gets what you're trying to say orange.
No you shut up, no you, no you, make me, you make me, I dont make trash I burn it.
Geez.
Deals like this happen. I have collected for appx 12 years and though not as such a large deal but I have found a few steals. I have read even more that others have found. It happens. Luck and persistance.
<< <i>You mean you'd rather have a 52 topps card of some guy you never heard of before than a Smoltz rookie. Smoltz just passed 200 wins and also has some 150 saves. I don't get you... I hate to belittle people but I gott a question that choice seriously. >>

This is getting way away from the important matter of Hidden Treasures boxes.
We traded some sheffield rookies and things for some old cards. But you just can't find those old cards. I thought 78s were old. Now the frame of reference would be 96s. That seems new to me. But 18 years are gone from those times. Not to lots of kids.
So these Hidden Treasures with the packs are pretty cool for card lovers. Hey, a lot of card lovers have become money freaks. There's no reason to be like that. You think you'll get rich going to flea markets? You think you'll get rich buying sport cards? Why do you think your girlfriend left you?
You might think it's crazy but Some of these cards are better than some of the stuff you'd get out of a blaster box of Topps Heritage or Bowman draft picks.

I just have to ask...Orange, since you never heard of that guy on the '52 Topps card, you have heard of Frank Tanana, or did you include that gem of a card in your scan because it had pretty blue borders?
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

It has my nomination: "Thread of the Year".
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
Orange, if your preferance is late 80's and early 90's cards then GOOD for You! Your fortunate to be able to enjoy cards for pretty much next to nothing, however the cards you have posted pics of above absolutly have ZERO value, None. That being said the argument of them being better than early fifties cards is really a no win situation when it comes to a market value or any value. There are guys on the boards here that would mail you those cards for free if they did not already throw them away.
Anyways for what its worth enjoy those cards but just remember these guys here know all the ins and outs of cards and your better off getting along and learning as much as you can about the hobby, there really is a wealth of knowledge here.

I still think Orange is pulling everyone's leg, and in no way believes that a box of hidden treasures (1952 pack chase or Babe Ruth ) is better than the 500 VINTAGE CARDS (that have a resale value in the HUNDREDS) that xbaggypants got for only $25. No rational person that has ever touched a sports card would think that. Good one Orange, you had us all going there for a few days. OK everyone move along, nothing more to see here.
I think what everybody here is missing is the fact I'm out $20. Of course, with the logic that's been going on here, my haul might easily bring in double that. Those Olson's on the open market might bring a good $.0000000000000000001. A few duodecillion sales and I'm on easy street.
kmnorton, I don't use the word hero loosely, but you are the greatest hero in American history for starting this thread.
Not only was your content good, but things spiraled so far out of control that many many great thingys have been said by a truly gifted individual. God bless you kmnorton. God bless you.
I don't weight all that much, so I would appreciate an olive leaf garland around my head and to be carried through the streets of Manhattan being seranaded to the tune of "for he's a jolly good fellow"...

What I'm really waiting for is for someone who actually pulls a vintage pack/card worth talking about! Who will it be??? I won't hold my breath, though. You have a right to say what you want and Im not looking to tell you what to buy/collect but if little Jonnie is reading this Id rather point him in another direction as his money could be more wisely spent.
This product is all hype with little or no return ( and not profit but value). If I believed in the company more then I would be more understanding of their practices but I dont see them as " really caring for the customer". You know GEM comes across as a on the level grading company when in fact its used to sell counterfits to unsuspecting buyers. I cant forgive GEM that they dont authenticate and it is not noted on the slab because its too expensive. Same thing with Tri-Star, the old packs were expensive so we had to buy damaged older cards and have poor collation.
Yes the cards are of stars but for the $20 box price you could purchase a better lot on ebay or from a shop of the same cards but more and better condition. This product is made for people like my Dad who think they are getting a deal when in actuallity they are not. But my Dad without internet and alot of knowledge of card collecting will buy one from Walmart and think Wow !! I can get a old pack. They put what... ?? old packs in this product. At Target you can buy ...around 500 cards packaged by someone I cant remember and theres 6 stars showing for around $5. At least theres no gamble involved that pull many of Tri Stars customers in. I bought a few Tri- Star packs knowing what I would get and the best card was something similar to a 88 Topps Boggs, ok cool, but its beat to h e double hockey sticks and Im not looking to re-sell it but at least they could provide some better quality product/collation.
