I wonder if Barnes and Noble has "Metal Detecting for Dummies". Maybe that is a good start.

  • Look at the White's Prizm 2

    http://www.whiteselectronics.com/prizm2w.php

I carry a small shovel like an Army entrenching tool.
    A dull screwdriver.
A ground cover (towel) to put dirt into. A frisbee works well.
    A digging knife (Hori-Hori).
    An electronic pinpointer.
A pouch to put finds/trash into.
I use a blub planter on well groomed lawns.

    In my van...
    Extra battries.
    Water
    Leatherman Tool

i like to use one of these mostly, much easier than any hand tools. most property owners don't seem to mind, when they come outside and see me digging in they're yard.

I guess you are right, sometimes. Are there dumb questions? absolutely.
Not that I'm saying Gene2393 asked dumb questions.

Excellent list by CrockofCoins... as you continue, it seems, you carry more and more. I use a carpenters leather harness with pockets etc... Cheers, RickO
