Cool copper pick-up - just had to share!

I think this is the best looking hunk of Russian copper I have ever seen! The strike and what I think are traces of original luster bleeding-through are a great combination. I probably overpaid for it ($100 Canadian), but it's hands down the best example I have encountered.

Anyone has an opinion on the grade image?

Nice snag. I have had several of those in the past, but never near that grade. What is the luster like? Is it as red as the photo suggests?

I am not sure on the grade. Looks high end AU to me, but I may be off. I am having trouble distinguishing wear. Definitely a nice coin for 300 years old. image

The red is there! I saw the luster of it sitting in an album even before I saw the detail on the coin. I was blown away.

Didn't pay too much IMO. Excellent example.

    Thanks, guys!

I keep telling myself that no more buying outside of main focus, but every time I see something like this - I don't even think twice about it. Something dark stirs inside of me when I see a 200-year-old coin in such condition image

Apparently there are folks who collet these by date and mintmark! They often seem to be struck unevenly or offcenter. It would be a challenge to put together a set with the detail of your piece but if you want to try here's a site! 5 Kopecks

I've got a couple of examples I picked up as novelties.

That is a superior one, for sure.

At first look, my mental calculator put it between EF45 and AU53, so let's split that down the middle and say AU50.

I think there might be some slight wear on the reverse shield, so I'll go with AU-55. It's a stunning example and very worthy addition to your portfolio.

    rwyarmch - that '93 is a beauty!

1jester - the way this one is truck makes St. George the highest point, which looks like that took most of the rub, but also appears to have protected the rest of the strike from contact. I'm thinking about sending this one to ICG, since from my experience it's the only company able of encapsulating them.
