What's your best pull ever from a pack?

Mine was about 3 years ago. I pulled a 1994 Leaf Rookie Phenoms Alex Rodriguez. It got a PSA 9. Sold it last year for $360

What's your best pull and its value?

I pulled a 2004 Leaf Certified Materials Mirror Black Roger Clemens 1/1 card with both a game used jersey and a game used bad swatch. I would guess the value would be between $125 and $150 but I don't know for sure.

Back in 1977, when Mark Fidrych mania was hitting a fever pitch, I bought pack after pack trying to get his rookie card. Living in the Detroit suburbs, I had to have one. I don't remember how many packs it took, but I still can remember exactly were I was standing in my house at the age of 11 when I pulled that card finally. That was my best pull ever!!

It's not like I spend a lot of money on packs but I have never had too much success when it comes to pulling autos or GU cards. My only ones are 2007 fleer Scott Dunn auto, 2007 fleer Paul Lo Duca GU, 04-05 upper deck Kevin Martin GU, and 04-05 upper deck Lebron James GU. I'm guessing the Lebron is the best pull, but I have no clue on value for any of these although I'm guessing it's not much.

2001 Leaf Limited Pujols Rookie. Sold it for 360. Best one I have ever seen....auto'd Bat Barrell Babe Ruth numbered 3/3 out of some Upper Deck product. The guy sold it for over 11K on ebay about a year and a half ago.
  • busting 1987 fleer I recall pulling 3 Barry Bonds RC's (this was back in 87') I tucked them away with a bunch of other rookies and sold them a few years later for top dollar image cant complain about that.

I'm not much of a gambler, but I got lucky late last year. I bought a box of '04 SPX marked down to $60/box and pulled a AUTO's jersey of Jeter #'d to /175. What made it great was, it was the day BEFORE he went (what was it?) 5 for 5 in the second game of the playoffs? I IMMED. listed it on the 'Bay and got $300 for it.

Again, not much, but I'll take it!

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

This is by far my best pull. I sold it last month on Ebay for $382. I have since turned this card into a Perez Steele Mickey mantle PSA DNA autograph and about 50 cards for my 1972 Topps set with money left over.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • From the late 70's early 80's wax break I pulled a 1978 Eddie Murray, a 1980 Rickey Henderson, and a 1982 Cal Ripken - oh wait, that's probably what 80's junkie pulled from my packs so I guess it doesnt qualify- all I got was commons and lower condition cards.

I have the worst luck.. Though my best pull was a Gretzky card with a plain black game used jersey piece in it from 2 years ago.. sold it for $40. That's really the only card that I can think of.

  • About a month ago I was looking over my unopened pack collection. I usually save 3 from each set but for some reason I had four 85 Leaf packs. So I opened one and lo and behold: Clemens. Most exciting pull since I was a kid.

A few years ago, I bought an older box of SP Authentic Basketball (02-03) at a show, the dealer was blowing them out at less than $50 a box. I got home, opened the box and was pleased to find a Michael Jordan buyback auto, hand numbered 1/1. Nothing even close to that ever since.

A FF version was offered to me 2 weeks after I pulled it. So I had to sell it. I sold it to my local card dealer who doesnt sell singles but wanted to keep it for his personal collection. He doesnt really collect cards but thought it was neat and a fair price. I forgot to remove it from Naxcom and a day after I sold it someone offered me $275. uggh, Id buy it back in a heartbeat now. When I pulled it I was a passenger with my family and a cuss word slipped out when I saw it. My boys were in shock as I never cuss around them.

Can't remember what year it was, possibly 1998, but when Topps bought back 5 of each of Roberto Clemente's cards and inserted redemptions for them, I got one for a 1963 Topps Clemente. Really awesome since, even then, he was my favorite 'before my time' player.

I pulled an Austin Chroshere Platinum Masterpiece 1/1 out of Ultra in 1998.

My wife's favorite player is Hines Ward. 2 years ago, she pulled a Ward Auto jersey /86. Unfortunately, we moved shortly after that, and it got misplaced.

  • I've bought maybe three or four hobby boxes in my entire life. All were 2005 Donruss Elite. My decent pulls (that I remember) from those four boxes:

Also pulled a Pujols bat card from the boxes, but ended up trading that awhile ago.

2007 I pulled a Vince Young Auto from Topps finest that sold for $125 or so.
Best ever, bought a pack of 1972 Topps football. Got a common player named Dave Williams. It graded a PSA 10 and sold it for $350 to Mint State in trade. In the same pack I got a PSA 8 Riggins Rookie and a PSA 7 Yary Rookie and two other PSA 9 commons. Great pack. Paid $72 for it off the 'Bay

I just pulled a 93 leaf Chipper Jones rookie (my favorite player) and even though it's probably not worth much it was pretty exciting.

  • Probably gotta be the 3 boxes of 80-81 Topps basketball my brother and I went in on together back then. I think we ended up with about 8-9 Bird/Magic rookies... paying about $12 per box if I remember correctly (although that seemed like a lot when I was 13 years oldimage.

The other great thing about it was that I was a Bird fan and my brother Magic fan. So, we split the Bird/Magic rookies and swapped most of the other single Birds and Magics. So, I ended up with a ton of Bird single rookies and team leader cards. I still have most of those left as well as 2 pretty nice Bird/Magic rooks. One's a PSA 8 and the other would probably be an 8 or 9.

Best pull has to be a 1985 Topps Dwight Gooden from a cello pack sitting in the back seat of my parents 1981 Chevy light blue station wagon in the parking lot of Eagle grocery store in East Peoria, Illinois. I believe the door was partially open, and I was waiting for my mom to finish up at the drug store next door. I was new to collecting, and it was the card to have. It booked for $3 at the time. Thanks for bringing back great memories.

Here are a few I remember:

1991 (I think that was the year) Leaf Gold Frank Thomas. I bought one pack.

1989 Upper Deck. I had (and still have) a TON of these boxes. The second box I opened I pulled - drum roll please - TEN Griffey RCs out of one box. TEN. That's awesome.

1990 Upper Deck. Jim Gott and "Jamie" Weston Error in the same pack. That was definitely cool.

  • This Tom Fogerty is my favorite pull due to the strangeness of the image. I do not want to know what he is thinking. My best financial pull was a 1973 Topps Steve Carlton that graded PSA 9. I was going through some of my packs around 2 years ago and came across a 1973 pack that came open. I ended up selling it on eBay for $750 thanks to the Registery.

Late winter/early spring of '79. Finally my three year search was over. It would in fact be bitter sweet for this 3rd grader as Carew would be playing for the Angels that summer. I think I've rooted for the Angels twice since then.

  • Back in 1998, in the middle of the homerun race, I pulled a 1998 Paramount Cooperstown Bound McGwire, booked at $150 at the time, I bet I could have gotten at least $75 for it, now I'd be lucky to get $15.
  • Here's the luckiest (modern) pulls I've made, all autos.
    1. Peter Gammons 2004 Playoff Honors Auto (found in a "reduced" pack) at a department store costing $1.49.

    image

    2. Davey Johnson 2003 Topps Legends Auto (insert in topps regular pack). Bought the box of 10 packs reduced for $5.99 at a department store.

    image

    3. Don Mattingly Throwback Threads Auto/GU/25 pulled from a hobby box of 2005 Donruss Elite.

    image

The luckiest day I had in old times, I went to the corner baseball card store the day after getting a Jose Canseco RR (86 donruss) stolen at school. I had $5.50 in my hand, bought 1 pack of 83 Topps and 1 pack of 86 Fleer, pulled a 83 Topps Wade Boggs and a 86 Fleer Canseco. At the time the Donruss Canseco was going for $60-75 a fortune to a high schooler. Must've been lucky.

I'd say my best pull(s) were these two Rickey Henderson rookies I pulled from one box in the most recent 1980 Topps Case rip. They're sitting in PSA's building getting graded as we speak. They're due to pop any minute now (5th day of the $13/5-day April Set Registry Special). I keep checking the website every 5 minutes it seems.
