ANA should get their educational slide programs and videos up on You Tube

This is a no brainer. They would be viewed by a great many more people than are seeing them now, a great way to promote the hobby
and the ANA. If people on the ANA staff are not tech savy enough to do it I'm sure they would have no problem finding a volunteer to
come to ANA headquarters to do it for them. Time for the ANA to enter the 21st century.

  • Great idea but they haven't even gotten their 1980's slide sets put into powerpoint.

Michigan makes a good point. Many of them are on DVD already.

it seems like a no brainer right? but somehow i bet they
make money off them in some small way and wont let them
    go out for free.
  • Don't see how they could make money on them when they will loan them out for free to any ANA member who requests them, and don't loan them out to non-ANA members, but will let anyone who comes into the museum see them for free.

from the sound of the board of directors or whatever
they get themselves elected to, it seems to be about control then?

one would think that your main goal is to introduce people
to coin collecting, you would have a website that you
could watch them online. but then the ANA is probably
still thinking it is the 1980s.
  • Get the videos out NOW while these video sites are accessible and popular. Grow the ANA brand while coin collecting is fresh in the public consciousness (state quarters, presbo bucks, $5 million dollar nickel) and many of today's video watchers will arrive as ANA members down the road.

Does the ANA have any modern videos on SHQ and P$s?

There is a treasure trove of information here, all of it should be up on You Tube right now. If they want to grow the hobby let people
know what it is all about. I recently made my own You Tube video on US obsolete currency, it is not the most professional presentation
in the world - I was just experimenting but it was a lot of fun to do.

I'd watch a few on YouTube to see if they are entertaining.

They'd need to be edited to meet YouTube's size and length requirements but that shouldn't be hard for their video editor.
  • I don't necessarily think that putting DVDs from that list on Youtube is the most important first step. I was thinking more of a weekly free video series that could serve as an authoritative bulletin on collecting. Get the word out on current events and get people subscribing. Then release some grading and authentication guides.

How do copyright protections work on YouTube?

There is no real DRM yet, you just get some security through obscurity that can easily be bypassed.

People like michigan ignore copyright protections. Wasn't there a recent suit by viacom against one of these online video sites?

Yes, against You Tube and they removed 100,000 plus vidoes (mostly music and TV episodes). ANA is so bureaucratic and legalistic I doubt they
would post the videos and would rather just lose out on the free promotion.

These things would be something great for an intern to do, wouldn't they?

    Powerpoint slides based on previous....
    Videos converted and put online....

Yep....would be something that an intern could do.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

It is possible to do your own educational video and post it on you tube. Do it for the love of the hobby and if you really care about
copyright then this isn't the format for you, I have had people copy my descriptions on Ebay and just shrugged it off.

VHS is essentially a dead format these days, I have boxes of them downstairs that I don't know what to do with, you are lucky to get
any bids for them on ebay even starting out at 1 cent. It would be nice if they could be recycled but I suspect millions of them
are just dumped into the landfills.
