i have an 1885-O that has similar, though less intense reverse which i assume came from being transferred to a paper roll or perhaps a plastic tube which wasn't sealed very tightly. with the recent advances in ToningTech-knowledg-Y™ this one's a tough call, though.
~~~Does anybody really know what kind it is~~~~ Does anybody really care?~~~ If all the toning threads of the past weeks went POOF! this would be a boring forum... Lots of opinions, some facts... the debate rages on... and still, moon money changes hands for esoteric values... I am continually amazed at this hobby - well, the people comprising the volatile part of the hobby anyway. Cheers, RickO
I'd sorta go with the album toning myself because of the symmetry of the coloration and the light vertical stripes on the left and right sides of the reverse which to me are impressions left by the paper from the album it was kept in. I have seen a number of album-stored coins where the wrinkly texture of the paper was impressed upon the coin over time.
