I vote honesty as the best policy. Would you really be able to enjoy anything that you got in a somewhat tainted fashion?

I am single and to be honest, things like this keep me that way. I couldn't stand the idea of getting to keep only $100 of a bonus I earned while my wife blew the rest.

But having said that, I have generally found that lying doesn't really get you anywhere.
  • You can run from the truth, but you can't hide from the truth.

My rule of thumb, If I ask myself 'will I get caught?' then I don't do it.

It simply amazes me how easy the path of truth is yet so many folks refuse to use it.

i would split it as well, what she doesn't know won't hurt her. i'm sure she'll be happy with the split if she doesn't know the total

    good luck with all that!!!!

I can't believe that you even had to ask this question.

    Good for you.
  • I always advise everyone to start saving as much as they can as soon as they can.

I work in the money management field and I can't tell you how many times I've seen the same scenario: New client comes into office near retirement age and wants to spend X as their retirement salary... we look at their savings and than have to tell them you may want to consider lowing that by quite a bit (or keep working) because you'll be drawing down principal at an alarming rate.

And storm is right, collectible items really aren't the best investment vehicle - if the economy goes in the toilet discretionary spending will go down and items like collectibles really get hit hard.

EDIT: I also can't tell you enough, DON'T WATCH CNBC (especially Jim Cramer) as that station is truly bad for your financial health.

EDIT 2: The time to make real money is when others don't have the cash and YOU do!
