Is MS65FH out of the question on this SLQ ? Large image warning

Everything says it will go 65 to me......except for the hit between Liberty's right leg and the stars. It almost looks like something other than a hit but I think there is no other explanation. It is fairly well hidden at first glance but it is a doosy.

What do you think...any chance of going MS65?

With that hit to the left of liberty's leg, yes, 65 is out of the question.

nice pic, nice coin. and what exactly is going on to the left
    of liberty's leg?

i was looking more where her skirt ends.. that perpendicular
line going towards the leg. unsure if that should be there..

also to the left of the leg by the stars...

No matter what the grade, that certainly is one well struck quarter, full head and knee I would say- my humble opinion. Oh, yeah, something else looks quite full/well struck as well...

I would be worried about the hits on Liberty's exposed leg. There also appear to be a couple hits around the eagle and on the date. Very nice coin. Id say it has an outside chance. Crack her out and try!

In addition to the leg already mentioned,

there is also the marks on Ms Liberties neck.

This coin will not make MS-65 at PCGS.

i thought those nics on the leg could be from the ejection mechanism at the mint?

the "hits" by the date sure appear to have luster on them.

is there something more going on with this coin that i do not
understand? is it already in a 65 holder?

64FH is the most I could see it at, a very well struck and pq 64 but 64 all the same.

It's only a photo, and I do not care what the technical grade is. That is the look of the type of coin that I would want in my collection. image

fc: I don't see the perpendicular line you are referring to?

The most distracting mark is certainly between the left stars and her leg. There are a few marks at her neck and jaw but are not as noticeable in hand as the photo shows. There are a couple very small tics on her leg and two on the date digits 9 and 7. There is a die crack that connects the top of the date digits but is hard to see in the pic. There are a few small tics here and there on the reverse but nothing i see that would keep it from going 65.

The coin is currently in a PCGS holder, graded MS64FH

I did just notice while looking for the line fc was referring to that there is a small "die break/chip" on the lower drapery, just left and center of the second and third stars from the bottom on the right side. Would this be considered stars 11 and 12 ? Are there listed varieties for the SLQ series?

I think you have a properly graded coin. I can't get a good feel for the quality of the coin's eye appeal from its image. If it's exceptional, they might overlook the imo too many small contact marks on the coin and put it in a 5 holder. I've seen PCGS upgrade a coin from its technical grade when it had outstanding eye appeal, especially when the coin is attractively toned.

The 1917 P Type I imo is the only problem-free coin in the series. I think there are too many contact marks on Miss Liberty's rt. leg from the knee down, coupled with the marks on her neck and jaw for it to be in a 5 holder.

I collect type coins of this series in FH 6. Basically, you get one minor contact mark on the coin at that level. Usually you see it on Miss Liberty's leg, below the knee. If there's more than one of them, or if it jumps out at you, imo it isn't a 6.
