Just a vague suspicion

I've had it mentioned to me that sometimes, auctions with poor, seemingly-uninformed descriptions and poor pictures on items that have a lot of price-sensitive varieties do a lot better than well-attributed items with good images.

What am I left to think? Am I screwing myself with too much information and slaved-over images? Am I victim of honesty?
Do you find yourself in the same boat?

I surely feel this way. I am at the point now that the next time I put any coins, or whatever it may be, on ebay I am not putting forth
the efforts I once did with clear images, good descriptions and information. Why bother when Zeb can put up the same coin or
item with terrible images, crummy info with a drug induced grade and paragraphs of useless information that has nothing to
do with the item and then make a killing at the end of the auction. No laurentyvan you are not alone in this thinking. It seems being
honest and fair is for chumps when it come to ebay.

Of course this thread could lead me into a much larger tirade as I have become bitter towards human kind as it is as of late.
My past experiences over the last year has just proved to me that people are not interested in truth. AS a matter of fact I feel
they love being lied to because the truth is just too much for their insecure minds to handle and being some what made a
little uncomfortable is too much a hardship. And I am also truly convinced that human kind does not want peace on Earth.
It seems humans love the making of war and seeing others suffer I truly believe this after seeing what I have this past year.
To try to carry on a logical, rational conversation with people or trying to defuse a situation threw communication and
understanding doesn't seem to be something people want to do they'd rather go right straight to the use of force. So be it
as far as I'm concerned you reap what you sow what goes around comes around. See I told you I'd you I'd over do it

Not at all- you simply expressed what I was feeling, in a shall we say, more forward manner.

I agree with you on virtually every point. The opportunity to have a general discussion with the winner based on intelligent, valid point making is non-existent in this day and age. People will hold to their opinions though they are proved wrong and the nasty eBay sellers almost always win.

I do, however, like you, like to sleep at night.

MSD, I'm glad that you have realized all of these things. Now accept it and move on. Don't let things that you cannot control change you. Stick to your principles and beliefs - that's what separates you from the crowd.

Unfortunately, yes. The good side of that is you end up with a lot of happy buyers. Of course, you can hold giveaways on the forum and make people happy too, and get only a little less money for it.

IMO you can't be a victim of honesty. Just think of the peaceful nights of sleep you get from being that way.

All the time. I had my worst set of auctions ever just a couple of weeks ago. Quite frankly, given the time it took to snap the photos and put the listings together, it would have been cheaper simply to give the coins away.

If those of us who work hard to take a good photo, list a coin correctly and grade it right stop doing what we do, the bad guys will have won!

Not sure if I agree here. Of course there are several cases of coins sold at ridiculous prices despite the nice photos and good descriptions, but choosing the other way as a seller, can only worsen things in my opinion.

Ebayers are being constantly offered a wide variety of great coins at any given time , often starting at $0.01 no reserve, so they have become very picky.And that's without counting the ebay live auctions of Heritage, Goldbergs, etc. Common items, even in uncommon grades, will more often bring very disappointing results nowadays, with the exception of toners or supergrades (67+). There is a multitude of other factors for bad performances, among which timing is the most unpredictable one.

In Roman's case, I believe that it was a mistake to not photograph or scan the label of the slab, especially on a problem coin. Previous Anacs coins were netgraded, as in AU50 details, EF40 net, now it's only details, so there was definetely some lack of information there.

It is still possible to get nice or even great results on ebay, but the formula is unknown to me. What I do know, is that cheap raw coins, or common proof and mint sets, simply roll over and die as our yeti JJ used to say, no matter how good is the description, photos and reputation of the seller.

And one more thing. On a slider coin, it is usually better to sell it raw and well photographed, than slabbed at 58 , because bidders prefer to gamble .Don't we all?

Some don't even have the energy to roll over before expiring.
