Isabella Quarter in PCGS MS-64 at Gray Sheet Bid
This Isabella quarter is available for $1,100, which is Gray Sheet bid. The price includes shipping via Registered Mail. The coin is mostly white with very strong luster. There are only a few minor marks, which are consistent with the grade.
These coins were sold by the Board of Lady Managers during the 1893 Columbian Exposition. It is the only U.S. coin that depicts a foreign monarch. The U.S. government granted the Board of Lady Managers and the Board of Gentlemen managers each a $10,000 stipend. The Lady Managers chose to take their payment in the form of these quarters (40,000 pieces) in hopes that they would be able to sell them for $1 each and quadruple their money. The sales were disappointing and many of these coins were returned to the mint and melted. The net mintage was 24,214.
