I have made 2 real screw-ups and had to make a couple of refunds. Honest mistakes, but the buyers had no way to know that... Fortunately, the buyers had patience and didn't pop me.
I very seriously doubt the seller purposely left a positive feedback. By default, the positive button is checked, and the seller typed in their negative comments and forgot to check the negative button. It happens...I've done it before (left someone a positive when I meant to leave a negative).
When they realized their mistake, they made up this story about not wanting to tarnish your reputation. That's pure and simple baloney. They goofed in their attempt to leave you a negative - that's all. You got lucky.
I think the seller left + feedback on purpose since the buyer had a smoking gun showing how the feedback would be retaliatory negative feedback in the sellers own e-mail, otherwise he would have left neg IMHO.
AskRaq, you threaten someone with a negative feedback, and then you're surprised when they are a little miffed? You're surprised when they threaten to retaliate? If you threaten to slash someone's tires, do you expect them to ask "How can we help you today?" You aren't pleased with the transaction? Then ask them to resolve it. Do not threaten. Just this week I purchased a camera and when it arrived, it was missing the CompactFlash card that was promised as part of the auction. I emailed the seller: "Missing CompactFlash card. Please advise." If you want resolution, you ask them to resolve it. Or you specifically ask for replacement, refund, etc. You don't send an accusatory, threatening email and act surprised when they respond in kind.
I'm very glad that you posted this thread. Because of your post, we are all able to see what kind of person you are. I'm about to add you to my blocked bidders list, as I'm sure many people already have. My only regret is that you are dragging your own mother's reputation through the mud, by using her account and not your own. That shows a great deal of class.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

If you neg someone for a net 5 bucks there is no telling what you would do on a high dollar item. Its not the point of it either... 5 BUCKS?
