Don
US soldier's ca.1917-18 World War I dogtag, made from a ca. 1898-1918 French silver 2-franc piece. $55.00.
***SOLD*** (swapped).
An interesting piece. For sale at basically my cost, if I pay shipping. The dealer who sold it had the name as "Gameron", but "Cameron" seems much more likely- the serif on the C makes it look more like a G, I suppose. I have no idea if I paid too much for this or not, but just as I've done when buying certain shipwreck-pedigree coins, I sometimes fork over a little more money purely because something is historically interesting. You have to admit, this piece does have that going for it, particularly as the centenary of the First World War will be upon us before too long. It might be interesting to try and find out this soldier's service record, to see if he came home from the trenches or not.
Austrian States (Salzburg) 1/2 thaler, 1695, NGC AU58, KM253. PRICE REDUCED: $365.00.
Obverse: hat above shield with coat of arms. Reverse: Saints Rupert and Virgil in priestly garb, with mitred hats and croziers. (NGC slabbed the coin with this side forward).
These scans do not show the faint, nearly prooflike luster beneath a goldish toning in the fields of the half-thaler. Still, I must say, for having been done on a scanner, they came out pretty well- my new scanner is an improvement over the old cheapo, which couldn't do slabs.

Sold my French/USA WW1 dogtag.
Have a "nibble" on my half-thaler (potential swap), but no firm deal yet.
Best of luck on this and all of your auctions...

The Thaler is a duplicate to the PCGS MS64 that I’ve had for quite a while. I have a Tru-View™ pic of the MS64, but I can’t post it from here at the office. Actually, I forgot that the one I’m selling is my avatar coin
I’m selling the coin as part of my ongoing effort to reduce duplicates, and fortunately, not to help make a mortgage payment
I also believe the coin should be worth more than it’s likely to bring on ebay, but I think my thoughts on its value are considerably more conservative than yours. I think you might be pleasantly surprised by the final bid. I’d love to be (pleasantly) surprised, but I’m not willing to make any bets. Please look for a pm from me. Thanks
