  • I'd go with a box of 1988-89 O-Pee-Chee Hockey. Some nice cards in there, including Brett Hull and Brendan Shanahan rookies!

1dale- too modern for me, but I do like Howard.

Remyn- I busted a clean box of 81/82 a while back with decent results player-wise, but those cards are amazingly tough to pull 10s of. I didn't get one in my entire box. That is a fun box, but once you've busted one and pulled 4 each of McHale and Bird, the thrill is kind of lost.

Jeescy- good suggestion, but BBCE is out of 88 OPC boxes. I may have to add 5 packs to my order for fun though. Thanks.

    Last call for suggestions....................

1985 Fleer baseball? There are some dandies to be had in that set.

How about a couple of these lovely temptresses? 5 or 6 up on the bay now...

I'd like to thank everyone for your suggestions. The order was placed a few minutes ago. In a few days, I'll be ripping the following:

1978 Topps Football Unopened Wax Box- $375
    (5) 1985/86 Topps Hockey Unopened Wax Packs- $100
1992/93 Hoops Basketball Unopened Series 2 Wax Box- $30

The Hoops box is just for fun to take me back to the Shaq craze, but it's actually fairly reasonable as Shaq PSA 10s bring $30, Mourning brings $15-20, and the Shaq Magic's All Rookie Team is a $40 card raw. When I get everything I'll do a live rip.

Boo- pm me your address so I can send you out a 78 FB pack and put a bomb in your refrigerator.

Just got the package from BBCE. 78 Box is in OK condition- I'd grade the packs at around PSA 8 condition. 85 Topps hockey packs look a little nicer. Let's start with the hockey.

Pack 1- Mike Garnter is the only card worth mentioning. Cards look like all PSA 8 quality- a bit disappointing.

Woo Hoo...Ripping! I love it! Good Luck! I need a few 78's I'll have to pull my list.

Steve Nelson (patriots) is one I need in decent shape, I think I have a 7. Also need a nice Marvin Powell, I have an 8OC

Is Louis Wright (Broncos) RC that year too?
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
Pack 2- Langway was always one of my favorites. I think he played for like 45 years, and I believe was the last player to not wear a helmet. Francis has a wax stain. Look at the crease on the right side of Krushelynski- top to bottom surface wrinkle. Nice. For those of you that are curious, that happens every now and then. The packs are definitely legit.

  • Will post from 75 FB rip a little later, just finished ripping them, but need to run an errand or two.
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
Pack 3- A little better, but still pretty much all PSA 8 quality. These are RCs of Muller and Sandstrom (I think). I'm gonna need some Lemiux/Gretzky help to pull this one out.

Pack 4- Another Muller and Hawerchuk. No need for scans.
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
Pack 5- Yzerman has a wax stain. Boo.

FB- mI will scan the highlights as I go through. First pack makes me want to throw up. This card is riddled with surface wrinkles.

The Dorsett is probably one of the toughest cards in that set. The fact you got a well centered copy is fantastic. Too bad it has the surface problems. Did it get run over by the roller or something?
  • MeteoriteGuyMeteoriteGuy Posts: 7,140 ✭✭
Terrible mark on that Dorsett, on an otherwise pretty awesome card. Centered ones like that do not come up often for sale.....or at least since I have been looking.

First 5 packs- only a few stars and one potential PSA 10. Not a good start. I may cut bait with this box and sell the rest on ebay. I'm gonna do 5 more packs and see what happens.

Next 5 packs- same story. A few stars, one potential PSA 10 common. I'm done opening these for now. I'll move on to my 92-93 Hopps Series II box.

92-93 Hoops box- Pack 1: GOOGS!!! Pack 2: Shaq AND Mourning in the same pack!! If this were 1993, I would be a multi-billionaire from this pack alone. Mourning looks like a 10.

    LOL.

I remember busting some packs of Fleer Ultra and they had those inserts that were one or two per box. I pulled the Shaq and sold it back to the shop for like $80. Busting this stuff back in the day was fun... Good Luck.
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
Halfway through the box and another Shaq/Mourning pack!! Plus another Shaq with a bent corner. Also, remember cards with inexplicable artist renderings of players like Fleer ProVisions and this Ewing card?

That Franco looks real sharp ping. Now if we could only get a third person to go in with us on the 1986 Topps FB rack case......

Come on Lee! Bust more of those 78's!!!!
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
Don't tell me how to live my life!!

But seriously, I'm seeing nothing but money flushing down the drain with every pack I open. I'm looking at a max of 3-4 PSA 10s in the box, and most have some touched corners. This set's hard enough to get centered- when I have to worry about corners too I'm screwed. I think I'll just sell the packs on ebay.

Don't antagonize me! I won't give in to your peer pressure!

damn you... I'll check their site and see what I can find. But just so you know, I can't buy anything until Friday...so we're "pack rip free" til I get anything. So you see, if you would just rip some of these, it would really make my day. image

Thanks eye, but it's mostly because I have had a lot of free time as of late. Besides, someone has to pick up the slack while Stone's gone.

I almost got banned a few days ago and now I'm being nominated. I feel like Shawn Merriman.

Lee, don't know much about the hockey and football you ripped. Think you'll be able to turn a profit on this rip?
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
Absolutely not. It wasn't even that fun which is pretty disappointing.

Ah. I was hoping one of those probable common PSA 10s was a pop 0 or something. People can get craaaaaaaaaaaazy over a Pop 1 PSA 10. Craaaaaaaaaaazy.

    Craaaaaaaaaaaazy.
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
It's not as rampant as it was a year ago when I was ripping case fresh 78 Topps baseball from Steve Hart and could sell every low pop 10 common for $75-$150 and actually profit off the rip. You would be very hard pressed to find something like that with the way pops are going up regularly. Also, the cards coming out of these packs were far from case fresh. I got so caught up in wanting to rip something I forgot how important that was.
