What's the lowest #'d parallel set you've ever completed?

I finally finished my 03-04 Topps Basketball Gold/99 set on Friday. 249 cards all numbered to /99. If it wasn't for a good friend of mine breaking up his almost completed set, I might never have found the last 22 cards I needed. It got me wondering.......whats the lowest numbered parallel set any of you have ever finished, and how many cards were in the set? I collect basketball only, and it's been incredibly hard to do this set. I can only imagine how hard a huge baseball set would be to do like this. Anyway, I'd just like to know what others have put together.
03-04 Topps Gold/99 (249/249 100%)
04-05 Topps Gold/99 (146/249 58.6%)
05-06 Topps Gold/99 (245/255 96.1%)
05-06 Topps Overtime/1 ( 24/255 9.4%)
06-07 Topps Black/99 ( 213/307 69.4%)
06-07 Topps Platinum ( 12/307 3.9% )

I almost completed the 1997 Totally Certified Platinum Gold football set a few years ago. This is a 150 card set numbered to /30. I was down to needing 18 cards when I gave up. I knew of 3 other people is the country working on the set and thought mine was the closest to being finished ubtil I started listing them on Ebay. There was a guy that I didn't know about that needed 6 cards. I had 4 of them.
I completed the 1999 Leaf Certified Gridiron Gear football jersey set. This set is numbered to /300 but I added a little twist to my set. Mine were all multi-colored swatches with 7 being 4 color swatches. I broke that one up and sold it on Ebay too.
I have done a couple other tough sets that were not serial numbered like the 1996 Finest football gold, silver and bronze refractor set and the 1999 Certified Mirror Gold racing set. I still have the bronze football refractors and mirror gold racing set I used to enjoy doing the sets but lost interest in the cards once it was complete. That, plus the fact that the prices dropped so much that I wanted to get rid of them before they bottomed out I lost over $600 on the Dan Marino Finest gold refractor alone.

  • 2000 Fleer Focus Baseball Masterpiece Mania set for me. 250 cards, numbered to 300. Now I'll get them graded over the next ten years. You'd get two mania parallels per box if you were lucky, so without Ebay it never would've happened.

edit to add: During my building of the set, I knew of three other guys building the set. One of them has sold off his set. I'm guessing fewer than six completed sets exist.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Not serial numbered, but my 1995 Ultra Gold Medallion set would probably qualify under your question. Now if I could possibly get all the inserts at Gold Medallion version, that'd really be impressive, wouldn't it? image

  • Not serial numbered, but I did the 2001 Playoff Legendary Contenders autos which are 71 autographed cards with the number of cards being signed between 25 and 250. My first modern parallel set I attempted. I am 2 cards short of the Banner Season autograph set which are all serial numbered to 25....
  • Unsure if it counts but I have 3 of the 4 printing plates of a Dodger. Now to find that last one. 3rd is in the mail. Rarely so worried about lost mail as I am now.

Not a set (only collect Jonny Gomes), but from 2006 Allen & Ginter I have all but one card, a printing plate---I have the base, six mini parallels (/50, /25 and /1 are the lowest) and three 1/1 plates.

Looking for Jonny Gomes cards, especially Triple Threads and printing plates. Will consider all cards, though. Got something? Contact me at c_u_l_1@yahoo.com

  • I started the 2006 Topps A&G "Bazooka back" mini set #/25 --- 350 cards in the set ... when I hit 200 and had already dropped 6k, I started doing the math and realized that my pursuit was simply not worth it ..... sold all but 3 of them over the next several months and actually netted over 1k when it was all said and done .

... incredibly fun ride .. but the buying and selling.

I pick at a lot of low-numbered sets, but I've actually completed just one that's I've seriously gotten into. I recently picked up 16 of the 2005 Hall of Famers gold cards #/25, 100 cards in that set, but I'm not sure I'll carry on with it. I still need about 18 cards for the 2001 Topps Heritage Chrome #/552. I have about 40 out of 120 of 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25, but they've completely dried up at anything like a reasonable price. I'm about 10 cards short of the 2006 Bowman Originals Black prospect set (55 cards, #/99).

My obsession for the past 18 months, I am just 12 cards short of completing the 2005 Origins Old Judge Gold #/20. It's a 200 card base set. I have completed the 86-card Update set from 2005 Future Stars, so that's nice.

A guy I trade with has completed the 2005 Cracker Jack Blue (#/50) and Grey (#/25) sets, as well as the 2006 Turkey Red gold set (unnumbered but probably 50 or fewer sets). He's also one card short of the 2005 Turkey Red Gold set, #/50. If anyone has a Delmon Young, I'd like to hear about it. And I'm also trying to help him out with 2005-06 Fleer Greats basketball #/99, need about a dozen.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay
