OT: NCAA Tourney.....

I can't believe my Terps got knocked out by Gollum from Lord of the Rings. That was the most frustrating game I've ever had to watch. We were bigger and more athletic than them, so our gameplan was to take perimeter shots the whole second have? How does that make sense? Gary Williams completely laid an egg in this one. In fact, pretty much all of the ACC coaches have looked bad including Coach K. Also, the Gerogia Tech guy should be looking for a job right now.

From what I've seen so far, I like Kansas, A & M, Georgetown, and I know this is gonna sound crazy, but maybe Winthrop. I don't think Florida will have the gas, and Wisconsin's big man is still injured. Winthrop looked really good against a solid Big East team. If they can get by Oregon, I like thier chances.

Man I love March Madness.

Damn my Illini. They gave that one away and prevented a Big Ten first round sweep that I would have written the Sports Guy about.

I think that the lack of upsets early will provide some big upsets in the sweet 16 and moving forward. I wouldn't be surprised if only 1 #1 seed made the final 4.

Oregon was my sleeper - things may be setting up for them.

    Zef - you've been busy listing - that's a lot of stuff.

I can't stand the people who fill out a bracket and pick all 4 #1 seeds for the Final Four. The guy leading my pool right now did just that, and picked no teams lower than a #10 for the first round, and all of his Sweet 16 teams are all of the 1-4 seeds. The rare lack of upsets has this guy in first right now, but we all know that won't last. But c'mon, my mother could've picked that - have some fun with it. I'm most annoyed that he's bragging about his picks right now.

    Duke did get hammered early.

We had a great game in Sacramento yesterday (Washington State v. Vandy). The second game was much closer than I, a UCLA fan, wanted. First game was great. Byers for Vandy is a PLAYAAA!

I agree...all of the top 10 brackets in my work pool are all brackets where the favorite was picked. And oh by the way...7 of those brackets have all #1 seeds going to the Final Four...in a word LAME

OK, maybe I jumped the gun on Winthrop. Oregon looks pretty good. I'm changing my pick to them. Florida looked bad for the second straight game even though they won.

I have been doing these brackets a long time and this is the first year I had picked 1-4 in all four baskets. I just did not see many strong teams beyond #5. Though, I wish I would have picked Tenn to go to the Sweet 16. I don't have 4 #1 teams in the final four, but I do have Ohio State losing to Florida in the championship. The last and only time I one the pool I am in was when N.C. beat Illnois. The other two teams I have are Georgetown and UCLA.

I went 26-6 in the first round, but I am not bragging. I find the less you know about a sport the better you do. The talking heads over analyze things.

Wisconsin threw a huge monkey wrench into my bracket. (I have two #1's and two #2's as my Final Four, Badgers included.)

At least my other three teams and predicted eventual champion, are still alive.

That's the great thing about the NCAA tournament...some years, all or most of the #1's make it to the Final 4....other years, like last year, not a single #1 makes it...some people have this notion that upsets are the norm every year, but it's not always the case. There are very few sporting weekends that rival the 1st two rounds of the NCAA's

    What the hell's a TROGAN?

I cannot believe how bad Texas looked today. Unreal.

Now FOR ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY IN THE UNIVERSE, please do NOT let Texas A&M get to the Final Four. I really mean it. I'm begging. This would be very bad for world peace, baby seals and global warming. A very, very bad thing.

I've never seen so many dominant little men in the tourney. This is the year of the Iverson. You've got Maynor from VCU, Curry from Davidson, Gollum from Butler, Acie Law Jr. Jr. Jr.......... It's a lot of fun to watch these guys take over games.

What happened to the Not So Big Ten? They are a missed free throw away from being shut out of the Sweet 16. Maybe thay can go play the ACC in the Overrated dance, while the PAC-10 and SEC play in the real deal.

Is there any chance Vanderbilt will receive an apology from the talking had who called them "severely overrated".
  • As a fan of a crappy mid-major team from the Horizon League I have been very aware of the success of Butler and other mid-west mid-major programs. Butler is so well coached and so disciplined that it shouldn't be a surprise when they knock off the bigger more athletic teams with a bunch of inidividuals just biding their time until they get to the "league." AJ Graves might be the ugliest dude in the NCAA, but he can shoot, doesn't turn the ball over and will wait 34 seconds for the right opportunity to hit a heart-breaking three as Maryland, Purdue, Notre Dame, Tennesse, Indiana, Gonzaga and Old Dominion and nearly 20 other teams have already learned this past season. I take some solace that Loyola played them three times this past season and went 1-2 with 1 point differential over the three games. I know it is hard for fans of Big Six teams to think that there is any quality basketball being played outside of the BCS schools, but there is plenty of it and there are some extremely talented teams and players.

The mid-majors make the NCAA tournament what it is. The well coached, hard playing players, who will, for the most part, never get paid to play is the best. My mom lives near the Utah State campus so I follow them. They are so well coached EVERY year. They find Juco players to fill in. Could they compete in the Pac-10 week in and week out? Probably not but they CAN get up for one or two or three good games. I wish the selection committee selected more mid-majors and less Purdue, Stanford's and Arkansas'. I do not care that Purdue won a game. I would rather see the Utah States of the world give it a crack! I love the NCAA tourney and go every year. Going to Anaheim next year. Disneyland and NCAA's should make for a fun week!
