I can understand trying to get market value for cards (and I am not even talking about SMR) but I see things listed in what I'm after at nearly Double current "market" prices, NOT SMR prices.

I just don't understand that logic. >>
I think he's completely within his rights to offer his cards for sale at whatever price he chooses (I never understand these guys who get 'mad' at Levi because he charges so much), but I'm with you in that I don't see how it makes financial sense to run a business this way, for the reasons I mentioned in the other post on this subject.
707's inventory looks almost identical to the previous Levi Day. The ridiculously high prices look almost identical too. Levi obviously is able to make a lot of money pricing his cards this way, so good for him.
Buyers can go elsewhere, if they do not like his prices. Sometimes/often, he has items that are hard to find; that has value to folks who do not want to search for days and still come up empty.
Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
With 15,000 listings, he only has to sell...what, 100 cards at a $30 profit each to break even.
50 cards at $60 a piece profit?
30 cards at $100 a piece?
In another way, it also gets him alot of exposure and free advertising. Everyone on ebay knows him and his huge selection...compared to say, other guys with only 100 cards here or 200 there.

That is fine but those profits are a figment of imagination when it comes to card shark Levi, your lucky if you only make him 50 % profit on a sale. The guy is a crook imo.
And DOG you should be ashamed of yourself for saying that.
Did any of you mathematicians also add in the BIN fees?
Also did it ever occur to some of you ladies that if you have the same cards you could get top dollar for them by simply undercutting him? For example if he has a card and wants 50.00 for it, it SMR's for 30 wouldn't now be a great time to list it yourself for 30, 35?
I bet the majority of you that are whining about his prices would not give your stuff away.

Steve, I could care less if you have a problem with that or not. But for argument sake I think that a guy that lowballs people who are looking for a fair deal when selling their cards and then goes way overboard when reselling the same item is a crook. Too bad if you or anyone has a problem with my saying that, including Levi
Actually Dog it appears that you do care or you would not have replied, that said, I have a problem with wild accusations. I bet you would not say any of this to his face.
<< <i>Actually Dog it appears that you do care or you would not have replied, that said, I have a problem with wild accusations. I bet you would not say any of this to his face.
Steve >>
Ahh yes I would say it to his face including yours ok, I like how you throw the 'dog thing out there, you are really funny.
I don't understand why Levi gets raked over the coals all the time. I just attended the Reading show and almost all the dealers price their cards above eBay prices. I walk by their tables all the time, but I don't stop to tell them they don't know anything about selling.
Isn't putting your inventory on eBay during a discount listing day the same as putting your cards out during a show? I understand his fees on eBay may be more than at a show, but table space at a show is limited. eBay is essentially limitless.
Maybe its me, but there seems to be a lot of energy in this hobby spent on collector's submissions that were undergraded, seller's cards that are overgraded, dealer's prices that are too high, and eBay seller's that don't take paypal. I just spend that time looking at my cards. It makes me happy and its free.
<< <i>Yo Dog, Levi does not lowball people. he actually pays strong. get your facts straight before you make an a$$ of yourself.
have you ever tried to sell him anything? NOOOOOOOOOOO
yet you will come on here, call him a crook and then make wild claims that he lowballs.
Steve >>
And another thing you freaking loudmouth, I have dealt with Levi many times. And Yes I have attempted to sell him items and he lowballed me everytime, and guess what smart one? I look on his sight about 6 months later and he is selling the same item for 2-300 more than what he quoted me for a sale. Example's 1954 PSA 7 Duke Snider offered me $100 selling @ $275. 1956 Mays PSA 7 offered me $200 selling $600. Gee Levi why are your PSA 7's so expensive? His reply... 7's are the hardest cards to come by. I got enough story's so dont run your wise mouth about things you got zero clue about.
I will say whatever I want anytime I want, how about that? You think Im intimidated by your calling me on something I say? Please dont embaress yourself like that, its my opinion and I can post it. If you got a problem with what I say then voice your opinion against it without the name calling and Im ok with that, I dont remember ever disrespecting you, and Im not sure why you think you can do it to me.
<< <i>Fine, keep showing EVERYONE what a POS you really are.

Steven, I will let you get the last word in like a little kid, so respond one more time because Im done going back and forth with you on this. I apoligize for using the word "crook" maybe I should have worded it a bit different, no offense to Levi, I have said in another thread that he is not a bad guy and delivers cards very fast. I hate the guys selling prices therefore I buy nothing from him, if you want to then good luck to ya.

Not only do I like the name - but it was my favorite jeans in college!
FYi i card i sold Levi last week for 300 is up for 575..good luck to him!
It's called having a whole bunch of money. If it sells great if not it doesn't matter. I'm sure he is a stand up guy but his prices are nuts.

Go F yourself how about that.
Steve
So gents how do you think the Mets and Bosox will do this year?
I have never dealt with Levi but how much he offers will vary for each grade.
E.g., if ya were to offer him a PSA 7 52T Mantle - he has a buying range of 19,500 - 25,000.
So, if you presented a weak 7 in his estimation - ya may not get as much as ya expect.
And, even if he offered you 36% of his retail - that hardly qualifies him as being a crook.
Do you sell on ebay?
Many here do and don't begin to think of the expenses he has running a full time business.
He has an SCD advertising budget alone at almost 40K per year.
His business model in no way coincides with ebay deals but many items go for righteous bucks on ebay also.
He's not a crook and it's sad that you would say that based on the evidence presented.
No full time dealer can afford to keep the inventory he does at a 10-20% profit margin I'm affraid.
