SGC crack with pics :)

**Disclaimer-- Jim, I will not or cannot be held responsible for any pain or discomfort these pics might cause you. Please browse at your own risk** image

From what everyone told me, SGC slabs are some of the easiest to crack. I dont know if I was excessively cautious and made it harder on myself, or the slabber used extra amounts of super glue on this one image Whatever the reason, this was the hardest slab I ever cracked!

I bit the corner off with wire cutters, then inserted a flathead to pry up. The top piece of the slab kept splitting over the card making me sweat even more. The seal was so tight, I had to use the cutters to "nibble" all along the edge. (It looks like a rat chewed it image) Anyway, just nibbling along the edge with the cutters turned out to be the best way for me to do it.

image What a mess! Did you actually break out in a sweat?
I've had that happened to me when I was extra cautious and nervous. Especially when that top layer cracks across the surface while prying around the edges. Funny what cracking can do to you sometimes. Cool looking card. Hope it gets a 10. Looks like a 10.

i find psa to be easiest to crack, followed by gai, then sgc. bvg are really tough. i actually had to take one outside and beat the crap out of it with a hammer to get it open. it probably would have been easier to give it to my rotties to chew on. they can bite thru anything i think. but i didnt want to damage the card or get them into the habit of chewing on slabs. i normally use heavy duty pliers and a mini pry bar and always works like a charm otherwise.

I have never ventured out of PSA for buying. I care barely work the self serve pump at the gas station let alone household tools so I don't know what my cracking would look like.

Anyway what is the success rate of a 96 SGC crossing over to a straight 9 without the cracking? Do you get better grades on the raw submit vs. the crack out?

    Thanks

In my line of thinking, I do believe so. Less to compare to if sent in raw vs slabbed.

    Nice.

That brings back memories of the time I smashed a finger at work and had to drill a hole in the nail the next day to relieve the pressure.

So what is that, they basically thumb tacked the tip of his finger back on?

Well, here's what happened. I was using my hedge trimmer, leaning into a good size hedge. I was trimming the top and I barely clipped a 4" metal light pole. With the force of the clipper teeth moving and bouncing off the light pole, the whole unit twisted out of my hands flipping over and severing the finger tip almost completely off.

The pin you see, was installed to hold the finger bone in place while it healed. The bone was completely severed in two with only a small section of skin keeping it dangling on image

Bad thing about the whole incident was, I'm right handed. I had to live as a lefty for a few months. I quickly learned something I guess I took for granted. The world is a "right handed" world.

I think the hardest part was learning to wipe left handed image

I've found using a Dremel tool works wonders for hard-to-open graded slabs. Just trip an edge off, and use a screw driver for the rest.

Instead of cracking the case and risk loosing a finger (=P), why can't you just send the card in the SGC case? PSA will review it still....

After all was said and done, all I have left from the accident is a small chunck toward the tip of my finger that never "filled" in and a little nerve damage.

Considering how bad it was, I am extremely happy.

edit: The hook was in about 3 months image

I never thought I would be posting scansof my finger instead of cards, but here goes image

    Jim,

This concept might be too complex for you but I am going to try nonetheless. If you put down a group of people because of a generalization due to their race, you are a racist.

I hardly put down a "group of people". My landscaper's name is Gilberto. He is Mexican. We were talking one day about how hard is it for him to find good help and he said to me that he might need to call 1-800-rentamexican to hire some help. We shared a good laugh. He takes no offense to that kind of comment because he understands that a good majority of the legal and illegal Mexicans who come here do landscaping, dishwashing, housekeeping etc. My housekeeper Miriam is Hispanic as well and we often talk back and forth in Spanish about things. I have given her numerous things around my house for her family rather than throw them away. She is very appreciative. I have visited Mexico numerous times on vacation including Cancun, Costa Maya, Cozumel, Tulum, etc and it is one of my favorite vacation spots.

Perhaps the closet racist is you my friend.

well, since you have a Mexican housekeeper and landscaper, and since you give them things that you would otherwise throw in the garbage, that makes it OK..
