They word things so that it's OK that they are fakes, legally that is. image

Under EBAY's TOS, a seller is required to attest to the
genuine nature of a listed item; if he cannot do that, he
must list the item as a "replica."

The disclaimer, "I do not know if this is real," does NOT
    fly with EBAY's T&S department.

Dave, I've been watching that one. I can't believe anyone seriously collecting would be dupped into this one. Wrong font size and no factory #'s on the back. Prolly shilling going on. The high bidder is a known member of the vintage community keeping an eye on scammers like him. I would figure no matter what price this goes off at fake cards will win it. image

  • Joe,
I didn't look close enough for factory numbers. When I looked at the reverse of the Matty portrait I knew enough when I saw the Piedmont 350-460 subjects.....the Matty portrait wasn't produced with the 350-460 subjects.

And thanks to eBay's new policy, i_buy_fake_cards name will not appear if the bidding increases by $8.59.

Not that I condone it but if "you" are reading this, please make sure you buy it image

    Stown, I know you're kidding...

Fact is, I'm not certain bidder IBFC is obligated to purchase. The seller doesn't list it as a reprint, copy etc, and IBFC only buys fakes image... In fact, this scammer chose the category for 'authentic vintage' cards. It's gray at best and ebay _will_ favor IBFC and remove any NPB strike once it's disputed.

Incidentally, item# 180090427362 the CJ Eddie Collins, bidder "ibuyyousell99" is possibly a shill.

Shillers often bid just before a whole number, ie; $99.99

It pisses me off that i_buy_fake_cards always beats me out in the bidding of the cards I want. It seems his funds are endless.

I would be surprised if Big Boyd was selling a fake. They are pretty classy sellers. I think it is just a bad scan.
  • AllenAllen Posts: 7,165 ✭✭✭
I am not saying they are fake, but bigboyd has a seemingly endless supply of Star rookies or Barkley and Stockton and I know at one time manyStocktons graded 10 by an off brand company (not snaggletoothgrading.com though)
  • I think all scammers have incredibly bad spelling.

Nope, it's a fake and he's sold multiple counterfeit copies of that card despite the fact that he has been provided with enough evidence to pull the cards. Bad scan or not, he's knowingly selling a card with "questionable authenticity".

That sucks. One of my favorite cards is my Star Stockton RC that I've had since the early 90s. If there are a bunch of counterfeits out there it completely kills its value. At least I know mine's legit. My real Stockton is on top, and the one Bodys is selling is on the bottom. Definitely a fake, and not a very good one at that.

Ugh, and he sold TWO mint 88 Kenner SLU Stockton cards. These cards are near impossible to find and have been counterfeited. So let's see, he's got Ripken Charlotte cards, a lot of Star basketball cards, and a lot of tough to find SLU cards....... Probably just a coincidence.

Not a problem, glad to help. The sad thing is that this is still happening with a pair of national articles addressing the cards and the need for caution. At least when I got burned on a fake it was to the tune of $200. People are getting ripped on these to the tune of $700-$1000. In addition, these counterfeits are really hurting the secondary market, or at least were hurting the market. For example, the highest grade in this card is a PSA 8. If someone sees this card sell for $1,000 they're not as willing to give a solid price for say a PSA 6, which is a great grade for the card, unless they have done their homework.

To be honest, I'm shocked at the lack of attention this thread is getting. We have demonstrated proof that a guy (or guys) with a good reputation, 40,000+ feedback and 99.7% positive sells tens of thousands of dollars (maybe more) in counterfeits every year. Seems like this is much more of a hobby-relavant story than the whole Gary Daggett drama.

    Co-sign.

The person I feel bad for is the seller with the PSA 4, which isn't that bad of a grade for the card. People who are not in the know will base the value of the PSA 4 on the final sale price of the one with "questionable authenicity"

I was looking for some more Star basketball info and dug up this thred. Does anyone know someone at SMR or anywhere else that could out BigBoyds? They are still making thousands every month selling SLU and Star cards. Unless they have an endless supply of these, then the cards are fake and somewhere they have a lot of open starting line ups and common star basketball cards.

Exactly like women, a large percentge of modern cards are flawed. This is not a bad thing. If you are 100% sure ya got her.............Errors have a place in everyday life. Beware those with a smile and a story.Yep ya da daddy..lol
USN 1977-1987 * ALL cards are commons unless auto'd. Buying Britneycards. NWO for life.
  • <Exactly like women, a large percentge of modern cards are flawed

Change that to "American" women are flawed, since most women I've met abroad actually employ logic from time to time, as opposed to the chaotic drama witches that make up femaledom here in the US. Had to go outside the US to meet a decent woman worthy of marriage.
  • Sorry GH, That you had to learn another language to hook a decent one... Though life can be dramatic on occasion, I've got a great American lady/mom/wife/nurse/cook and she knows a lot about baseball and football too!.. Shouldn't stereotype

This blog has some really good info on Bigboydsportscards3 and proof that they are selling fake cards. Blogs to read
everyone call Terry Boyd and complain about him making $50,000-$100,000 selling fake cards every week.
