I voted EF-40 with some reservations. I was tempted to vote VF-35. That grade is based upon experience, not what the grading services might do.
The obverse looks to be cleaned, and it appears that all of the luster is gone, at least on the obverse. As to whether or not it would get a body bag, I'd have to see it in person.
I will say this. Whenever I've sent a group of say ten coins to NGC, I've always gotten ONE body bag. Some of those body bags were legitimate, but others were just mean spirited. I think they have quota that they must fill, which has nothing to do the condition of the coin. It's just a little needle to remind you that they are forever vigilant for “no grade” coins, even if their vigilance is misguided. It’s also a misguided way to attempt to increase revenues for their NCS division. I refuse to give them rewards for bad behavior.
At any rate, if this coin were part of group that got sent to NGC, it would be the body bag coin for sure.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
I'm shocked and dismayed. Mirabela says I graded the coin higher than him (a comment made in another thread.)
I think the coin is original. Look at the background in the photos. The obverse background is lighter than the reverse background. I suspect that if the obverse photo were darkened to match the reverse photo more detail would be evident...enough to justify the XF45 grade.

Yeah, this one is a permanent resident. I bought it in 2005 from Tim Puro (VTCoins). It's a pretty nice example of why I like shopping with him. He just called it "XF" and sold it as such, with maybe a slight premium for being nice.
I think, in fact, 45 might be a tad high for this coin -- it is struck really well, and in hand you see it has got the kind of wear you'd want to call XF40 although it leaves it with a bit more detail than might be ordinary at that grade. So my unofficial mirabela grade is something like XF40+.
291, good call with darkening the left hand of the pic. I hadn't thought about it, but it does bring the picture more in line with how the coin actually looks. Overall, both sides have a nice old green-gray scuzzy look that suggests they haven't been messed with, or anyway not much and not in a long time. Underlying luster is pretty decent.

Edit: Actually, at the time of this post, it is a perfect bell-shaped curve. Therefore, I voted with the mean, median, and mode.
