Do you believe auctions about...

Unopened bank rolls?

Thinking about picking up a roll of 55P Lincolns for obvious reasons... yet if the possibility is there... why wouldnt the seller open it himself???

Generally, NO. I had some sealed unc. cent rolls I got out of a big collection I bought. I told people that they had not been opened nor examined by me, except for the 1958, because the DDO is worth huge money and I'm not going to let that one go by.

    No.

Just like I don't believe in unopened proof and mint sets.

Rolls like that often come in multiples. The owner will open one roll to see the condition of the coins. If, as usual, there are no high grade examples or the coins show a lot of carbon spotting, the remaining rolls will be put up for sale. I learned my lesson about five years ago when I bought a roll of 49-P cents in an original "shotgun" wrapper. There wasn't a coin in the roll that would have graded higher than 63. Carbon spotting was extreme.

Who knows what the case is here, but I wouldn't chance it.

    Depends.
In late 2004 and early 2005, I had a little more than half a dozen Wisconsin "D" quarters.....this was at the time of the extra leaf phase.....I sold most of them unopened (plastic wrap from Bank of America) on ebay and they were honestly unopened (they were rolled by the bank or whoever they get them from and I just had them in the safe then sold them).

Now, older coins.....I would be hesitant due to the paper rolling machines, etc.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I usually raise an eyebrow at those offers, especially when the roll has one or more different dates and "P & D mixture" written on the wrapper! Huh? How did they determine that without looking inside? image

Could never figure that one out. Every 62-64 proof set I get from an old collection is in an envelope and not sealed. It amazes me that all these people on ebay find the ones that the mint took the time to lick before they sent it out.

I learned that lesson years ago.... bought 'unopened' rolls on ebay.... upon receipt, it was obvious - although very carefully done, - that one end had been opened. Education costs a bit... but a lot more for those who do not learn. Cheers, RickO

just look at the sivler dollars (morgans) and they will eiter show you the one side or both sides. The one side is curreled rolled while the other has been UN curreled and pinched back together. The day someone sells a original roll of SEALED morgans and is honest about it. Will be the day I buy all there is to buy.

I know the 'unopened proof set' thing is generally a scam (as Russ points out to us quite often), but a few aren't. I purchased two lots of unopened '64 sets and hit paydirt both times. you gotta' go with your guy instinct i'd say

Yep, definitely have to go with your gut instinct. I've done extremely well with Ebay rolls but I've been very selective. The best lot I've purchased was listed as being AU/BU. The seller thought all the monster end toners were AU because they weren't red. image

If you buy from a big seller, purchase just a couple of rolls and evaluate the quality. If you're happy then buy more.
