Overseas Shipping (Bubble wrap is not enough!)

For any of you that ship over to England, thanks again! Just some kind words to let you know how your package may arrive:

First and most importantly, it rains every day in England! Please ship boxes/cards/items in plastic/rubber packaging suitable to endure periods of rain. The post is delivered by someone on a bicycle, or on foot and is delivered to your house. (They do not have cars for the post delivery people as this creates pollution, which they believe increases global warming.) It will not usually be covered when it is on the persons bicycle. If it rains, sometimes it is covered in a nap sack on the back of the post person or bicycle.

Please realize if you ship across the pond, package the items for us to receive it in the same way you would want to receive your items!

  • so you say it rains alot across the pond?
  • How are the larger packages and boxes handled over there, are you required to pick up larger and bulkier items yourself? If some guy on a bike is delivering these items, how do they handle customs and the collection of taxes? I'm just curious, I send a lot of international and it is always interesting to hear how other places operate. I sent a larger box over to Indonesia last year and the bidder ended up having to walk around the back of the post office over there to find their own package, wild!

    Wow, you guys must have a terrible fungi problem on all your turf areas. Heres a few products I recommend;

    1.Sonata (Case-2x2.5 gallon jugs)

    2.Serenade Max 6 lb. bag

    3.Rhapsody (Case-4x1gal jugs)

Apply after rainfall for best results

Some of this stuff tastes pretty good, just dont tell anyone I told you that image

    Sportscard, Yes indeed it rains.

Brum, Larger packages in England are held at the Royal Mail location for pickup. Depending on the size of the village or town, this could be a Walmart size facility or a place as small as a 10x10 room. My village has a 20x20 room where all of the mail is distributed and/or collected. They sell no stamps or packaging as that was de-regulated from the government a few years ago.

Lawn, Thanks for the turf info. We do not have yards here, we have gardens. And in our gardens we have grass or funghi. Most of my garden is stones, which are green with moss and funghi. We have never seen a pressure washer, but could sure use one!

    Cheers,
    MrG

  • I lived in the Manchester and Hyde area for awhile....

I can vouche for the fact..it's like stepping back 30 - 40 years in time when it comes to the daily mail routes there.

Jeez...I miss the pubs and the local chippy too....

Now MrG, who has all those glorious tea and tobacco cards from England?? Churchman's....Red rose...Priory Tea..Miranda confectionary??

5stat, Have not found any older sports collectables at this point. I moved here August 06, and have only been to one jumble sale. I managed to find an early 70s England football book, that you could paste football cards into as they were collected. The book unfortunately was missing all of the cards. I did purchase an old english college teaching manual from the 1860s for £2.

I am looking forward to the spring car-boots and jumbles to hopefully find some collectables.

    Cheers,
    MrG

Make sure to be on the look out for old (and not so old) boxing items and cards.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • I'm quite fond of the United Kingdom. Spent a week or so last year in the Canterbury and Ramsgate areas. Very nice pubs and nice towns to just walk around in. That's not something you have too much of over here. Most everything is either a VERY big city, or it's a small city that you can't really walk around in.
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.
