If there was one "must attend" show in the US, what would it be?

BlindedByEgoBlindedByEgo Posts: 10,754 ✭✭✭✭✭
Assuming that I were to rip 5 free days out of my schedule to travel anywhere in the US for a show... Assuming that I could get a kitchen pass from the wife to do so... Regardless of cost or location... What do you think would be the best show to attend in order to experience "coin nirvana"?

I would define coin nirvana as a combination of an active bourse, lots of selection, several high end auctions and hopefully, an attractive venue.

Summer ANA - not just the bourse and auctions, but specialized club meetings and displays, too.

Choice #1: Summer ANA World's Fair of Money

    Choice #2: FUN in January

Baltimore is great, but I would rank the two shows aforementioned a higher priority.

Other shows worthy of mention: CSNS Spring, Long Beach.

I agree with WTCG. I'll add that the New York International is a must for world coin collectors.

I agree that Milwaukee wasn't the choice I was looking forward to either. But then the ANA Spring show is going to Phoenix in 2008. Lots of great golf around Phoenix.

My favorite is the FUN show.
    When in doubt, don't.

I used to be a regular at FUN.

When they have it in Orlando, it's a good place if you have a spouse or kids with you who aren't into coins. There is plenty for them to do.

FUN is a good one. I have heard nothing but good stuff about Baltimore though I have not attended one there.

Summer ANA show. The fact that it moves around gives a little incentive to spend some extra time seeing the area, which is, more often than not, more attractive than Orlando. If you count all the "Pre-ANA sales," major auctions start what seems like weeks ahead of the actual show. There are also more activities available outside the bourse floor and for coin widows at the summer ANA than other events.

1 - Summer ANA - I like the idea of the show moving around. I always combine vacation time with the summer ANA.
    2 - Baltimore
    3 - FUN / Spring ANA

<< <i>Notice, no one said Long Beach?

I vote for the ANA Summer (they have killer exhibits) then Baltimore. FUN may loose some dealers next year due to the robberies. >>

Actually, LB was mentioned... But Summer ANA keeps coming up. Thanks for all the input!

I have been to the summer ANA, Baltimore and the FUN shows. I would say the summer ANA is the best if you also want to see the coin exhibits and free seminars. The FUN show also has these, but the ANA has much better exhibits.

    Put me down for Baltimore.
  • I'm with my Maryland friend, Tootawl, on this.

    Summer ANA
    Baltimore, anytime
    FUN, Spring ANA

BTW, I like the intimacy of the small Northern Virgina shows as well.

ANA would be the most logical choice... you have social events, clubs, dealer turnout, exhibits, etc...

what I find most interesting is the trend that Baltimore is ranked #2 moving ahead of FUN....

and like Laura mentioned....no one put a vote in for Long Beach image

You would think the state of California would have a major, well attended national show. What gives?

According to some dealers the Redwood Empire Coin Club show in Santa Rosa this coming weekend is possibly the best coin show in Northern California.

  • I liked the Summer ANA in terms of displays, club meetings, auctions, etc. but as for actual coins on the bourse my favorite show has been Central States. There were more reasonably priced coins there but not as many extremely high end coins like at the Summer ANA.
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!
