Were'nt these shipped from Gary Hart??
Trying to complete 1960, '61 and '68 Topps baseball sets...raw
The Presidential candidate? I think you mean Steve Hart. And no, these packs weren't shipped direct by Steve, they were shipped by Gary.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
From the case break, yes. The 78 pack I alluded to in my post was from a previous "rip" that Gary organized, though.

Based on the purchase of the 1980 Topps baseball wrappers, it looks like he was hoping to worm his way into shipping the 1980 packs from the case bust that's being organized right now. What a shame!

Do you think they were tampered? How were the commons? >>
The 78 was very dirty on the back of the wrapper. I am not an expert on tampering so I defer to the wisdom of other board members. The commons/minor stars/stars were like most packs. Some centered well LR and others not.
Was it worth it? I went into this rip as well as other rips expecting little. Some moderate success here with the McHale rookie and with some other cards in the FB and BB rips. The true worth will never be known since the true story will never be known.
I joined the rips as part of a mob mentality wanting to be a part of opening some older wax. Perhaps it is only fitting that my last rip is surrounded by the mob mentality of the past few days.
My faith in the hobby has been weakened, but it is just my hobby.
There are so many more important things in my life that make this event trivial. At some point Gary will have to answer for what he has done. I am not the one to pass final judgement on his acts. I hope as many of the rip participants as possible attend the National and search out Gary so that he can put a face to those he has done 'business' with in these rips.

If you can, post photos of the edges of the packs showing the folds. That's the best way to see from a photo if they are likely resealed. Probably not easy to scan but a good high resolution digital photo should do the trick. Make sure the lighting is just right. Too dark or too bright and you can really see the quality of the folds.

I was not involved in any of these rips but from the pictures, it appears that most ofl the yellow packs look to have brown burn marks on them from an iron.

I ordered some 78 Topps and 88 Fleer packs from Steve Hart for two reasons: 1) I wanted to compare them to the ones Gary sent us, and 2) I wanted to test myself to see how adept I am at spotting reseals. Here is the comparison:
Gary's 78 packs (problem areas noted with blue arrow):
Steve Hart's pack:
The double folds on Gary's packs aren't as tight as the BBCE pack. Also, the crinkling in the middle of Gary's packs aren't on Steve's packs. Then you look at the top left corners and Gary's show a little tearing. Then the burn looking mark in the right of one of Gary's packs is suspicious. Steve's pack is more crisp and tight.
I'l get the 88 Fleer pics up shortly, although the jury's still out on them. I'll be totally shocked if the 78s aren't reseals.
The different folds and wrinkles in the wrappers don't mean anything. No 2 packs were folded exactly the same. If you look at any unopened wax box you will see a lot of differences in the packs. James

That is true but the loose corner folds are definitely one sign that a pack may be resealed. The easiest way to tell is to look at the back of the pack and to see if the wax roller marks on both sides of the pack match up and if the pack has retained its shint waxy look and feel. Most resealed packs are either dull-looking or the roller seal is broken on the back. The scorch marks on the back would also be an indication that the resealer used an iron to reseal the pack.

I have been out of town working so today was the first chance I had to see my packs. The packs looked fine. I bought 2 lots and pulled some decent cards including a nice Pippen rookie, an 87-88 Jordan sticker, a Kevin McHale rookie and a couple Dr. J cards. All in all, I'm pleased with the packs. Did anyone else other that the few that posted here open their packs? There should have been 2 or 3 Jordans pulled from both the 87-88 and 88-89 packs along with at least 3 Jordan stickers from each year. The 87-88 packs are easly searched if you know what to look for.
