<< <i>You are correct, Michael. It should be very interesting. I didn't know Ostromecki was running again, haven't seen any news on that. Is this confirmed or just speculation? >>
Regarding Ostromecki, it was announced on the Numismatic News website - www.numismaticnews.net

Longacre - figuretively, what is your point?

OK, thank you, this will make the election even more interesting.
Probably we will be seeing daily press releases from the ANA up until the votes are due.

<< <i>I understand that Hillary may run? Can anyone confirm???? >>
Your state, Jon, is the one that elected her, despite her living in the state barely long enough to buy a newspaper, and gave her the platform she has been using for the past 6 years.

And the usual pro-incumbent propaganda from those within the membership who stand to lose everything. Speaking of propaganda, did you hear that the ANA Prez and the VP gave Exec Director Cippoletti kudos on his performance? What do you think of that?
<< <i>I'm going to get yelled at (again) for trying to insert a joke. Let's stick to the ANA stuff. Nothing was intended by my comment.
Longacre - a little humour never hurts.
<< <i>I'm going to get yelled at (again) for trying to insert a joke.
That's what you get for throwing Numismatic Bombshells™.
Edited to add winky.

That's what you get for throwing Numismatic Bombs. I have absolute no idea who'll win the election. I think we should institute a party system with primaries or caucuses. >>
Some years back, there was an attempt to do that under the name "Real Coalition". Will Rossman was the presidential candidate, and I believe that Patti Finner and Barry Stuppler were involved. While Finner and Stuppler did win board seats, Rossman lost.
When I heard about the "Real Coalition", I called it "Real Big Mistake" or "Real Bad Joke" because the platform sucked!

<< <i>THis thread talks about the Governors' election, does anyone know who is running for President and VP of the ANA? >>
Barry Stuppler - President, Patti Jaegar-Finner - VP
They seriously need some opposition!

Perhaps you lump him with the "status quo", but perhaps not ALL incumbents should be thrown out.
<< <i>Do you gaurentee a chicken at every table at the ANA coin shows??? >>
For you, MadMarty - of course!
<< <i>What's wrong with Stuppler? He stuck his neck out for collectors with the ACG crap.

But Stuppler got most of the ANA Board sued, and got only a slap on the wrist (unlike Ostromecki).

Or at least a full bowl of Tootsie Rolls™?
Pass the popcorn, indeed. IIRC, Krause & Mishler are also a bit ticked about the status quo over, among other things, the handling of funds to build/expand a named wing of the museum. Someone set me straight or fill in the blanks on that one.

<< <i>It is my understanding that for ANYONE to be on the ANA ballot, they MUST have nominations from at least FIVE (5) ANA member clubs. Anyone can announce that they are running. Getting the required FIVE (5) individual member endorsements is really easy. The BIG hurdle is to actually get those CLUB endorsements and get all the docunmentation into ANA headquarters by, I believe, March 31st. Michael, I assume you now have those endorsements. I truly hope that ALL those people who wish to run DO get endorsed and DO compete. We will all know for sure when the ANA makes the official announcement of candidates in early April. Steve
Steve - I have more than enough endorsements to run.
solely so we can vote against each and every last one of them.
I have never voted but you can bet your hind end I will be this year and I have a feeling that there are many many people that feel the same.
As far as Stuppler....maybe he'd like to disclose what happened to all of the money that was to help people with their defense? Was it used as it was intended? Who was it used for/on?
<< <i>when the ballots are out and enroute to everyone in the mail, I certainly hope that someone will initiate a thread on here letting those of us that really don't follow along know who all of the incumbents are..........

Hello goose3 - please read the first post - 3 of the 4 incumbent governors have announced their intentions to run.

Fitts seeks return to ANA board
Arthur Fitts has thrown his hat into the ring for a seat on the American Numismatic Association board of governors after sitting out a term.
The Framingham, Mass., hobbyist and dealer said, “I believe my four years of experience on the board, my years as an appointed officer of the ANA and my continuing involvement with and commitment to the ANA and to the hobby make me an outstanding contender for a board seat,” said Fitts.
“The association must move forward, building on its ongoing successes andexpanding its outreach to new collectors through greater use of the Internet and other media,” Fitts continued. “Change is a necessary and inevitable component of progress. But it is essential that before changes or modifications can be made, they must be proposed to the membership for feedback.”
Fitts also said he believes communication between the leadership and membership of the organization is critical to its success.
“But good communication involves dialogue, the free and open exchange of ideas among the ANA board and its members,” Fitts said. “Members have the right to actively involve themselves with questions and comments during the decision-making process, but they also have an obligation to listen to the feedback and other ideas. The fact that someone disagrees with a proposal does not make it right or wrong. There has been too much anger, too little questioning of unfounded and malicious rumors that currently circulate through the association.”
Over the last 35 years Fitts has been an instructor at ANA Summer Seminars, a presenter of educational programs at ANA conventions, an exhibit judge and columnist for the Numismatist. Among his other contributions are chairmanship of two ANA conventions, and service on the 1975 U.S. Assay Commission.
Fitts, a 52-year member of the ANA, has received the ANA Medal of Merit, Glenn Smedley Memorial Award, two ANA Presidential Awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award, Exemplary Service Award, and the Numismatic News Numismatic Ambassador Award.
His wife, Prue, currently serves on the board, but is stepping down.

Yes, let's talk about that. If you go the national archives you can read all about it. Suffice it to say that it was a lot more entertainment for the commission members than anything else. All the restaurant bills are even in the files to prove it. The letters of application are there too, everyone stacking up their list of credentials against all the others. The whole affair was put to an end for good reason.
That aside.
Are there firm & concrete numbers which summarize ANA income and expenses for the last five years? Or is this information all shrouded in accountant-speak and other gobbledygook? If the answer is anything except yes, I am voting against all the incumbents. As I understand it, the main charge against the current regime is fiscal mismanagement & I am just wondering if the data is really there to make that case.
How was this his fault?
<< <i>But Stuppler got most of the ANA Board sued,
How was this his fault? >>
Lets see - he used his position as a governor to make the statements that got ACG upset, which in turn ACG sued the ANA. Also, some of the board, including the president at the time, were making some pretty negative comments about AGC and the Hagers (the owners). Whether the statements were true or not, as an official, you need to get your facts straight. Chances are that Stuppler had his facts but the way he approached it was harsh. But lets not forget, what about ACG and the Hagers - what was their facts? I am not a fan of the grading services, so I feel that whoever does business with them is a matter of personal choice.
However, the ANA was covered by insurance and did not go much out of pocket for this.
There were many defendants in the suit, as many board members know, but the fact that Barry was instrumental is not a reason in itself to vote against him in the election.
