  • Prince is actually an incredible performer...and his halftime show was a great gig.

Would you guys have preferred some crusty old over the hill rockers (a la rolling stones)? Not me, I want a good show, not one where you see them going for their oxygen tanks and walkers.

No, a person cannot be a Prince fan and be a football fan...it is diametrically impossible.

I play music and appreciate Prince as an artist but his style doesn't really fit in with the NFL's core audience. They could have got a more modern act heck Green Day would of been better.

  • They had green day and U2 play at the Saints game.

Good god, no its not. It's a travesty of corporate bullying over an entire genre of music. Old school, REAL country music like Merle is good, but the crap they play today isn't anything but pop with a steel guitar and it's god awful.

I like U2. I like good music and U2 plays good music. Frankly, Prince music simply sucks - it's monotonous and boring. He might be the most overrated rock artist, by far, in rock history.

I agree about current country being all designer music controlled by producers but so is pop. There are lots of good underground country artists out there and I still like Garth because he writes alot of his music and Chris Ledoux and him were buds.

Point understood - I know he sold an awful lot of records. But I think he was more of a "phenomenon" with his stage act and a few of his movies, than really a good rock musician.
  • The crap being peddled today isn't country.

If you feel it is, I'd suggest a history lesson into what real country is all about - it sure as hell ain't tim mcgraw, faith hill, or any of a 1000 prettied up, no talent hacks.

I agree with that. From any music genre you can find a lot of stuff that sucks - including rock & roll. Country overall is good music...it's generally not my taste but it's good music. Prince music just sucks - it's really that simple.

That "hit song" Purple Rain has got to be one of the boring, pathetic rock songs ever recorded. This is true...I read it in Soldier of Fortune magazine...in Chinese prison torture camps they play Purple Rain over and over again to get prisoners to talk - it works better than physical torture.

it's a fairly well-known statement in the past that Eric Clapton has said Prince is a very underrated guitar player. He is also an excellent performer in my opinion despite not really paying attention to what he has put out since remembering how much people were into his Purple Rain CD(I was more into other rock and early rap at the time.)

It wasn't great, but it thankfully wasn't Paul McCartney again, that was so much worse.

Nothing against Clapton and he is one of my favorites of all time, but everytime I ever see him interviewed he says "everyone" is great - so him saying that about Prince in my view is practically meaningless.

Except for exceptions like Hetfield of Metallica who hates almost every other musician, most rock stars always highly compliment one another.
