2 headed quarter

I'm not an avid collector, but when I roll coins I keep out the obvious "keepers". Yesterday, I came across a quarter with heads on both sides. One side is dated 1993 and the other 1973. And it's not 2 quarters glued together, it's just as thin as a regular one. Is there an interesting story connected to this? I can't imagine why someone would go to all that trouble to mess up a quarter. Any info would be appreciated!

  • Magician's quarter. Or a carnival type gambler that is hustling in a game of heads & Tails.

Ever flip a coin to see who pays the bar bill?

It's surprisingly not a lot of trouble. Anybody with a lathe and some superglue can do it.

Called a magician's coin. One coin is hollowed out and another coin is cut down to fit inside the first coin. Check the inside of the rim and you should see a seam.

  • My friend found a double headed nickle while roll searching. He called me up and told me he had to show me something, but wouldn't say what. So he drives 40 miles to show me this nickle, and I show him the seam where it has been joined. We had a heck of a laugh over it.

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

I'm a machinist by hobby and I've made those myself. However, when flipping a coin that I need to win I use a 2 headed washington colonial. --Jerry
