    Gold Britannias were first issued in1987. Four coin Britannia proof sets have been issued every year since 1987.
    I can find nothing further back than that for Britannia Proof sets.

    Link Poke around their site, they've got a Britannia page (not just about the proof sets). The picture of their 1997 set is the the one I got from them image.
