What are one ounce silver eagles dated 1998 worth?

I have some that i want to sell and i need to know what i should expect to be able to get for them.

Is there any premium associated with them dated 1998?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Have you tried checking eBay?

I don't know if there is any collector value due to low mintage.

Coin ads in the magazines or news (NN etc) publications can give you a good idea... and the BST may be a source of sales information as well. Cheers, RickO

With a mintage of 4,847,549 for the 1998 uncirculated eagle, it is really not that rare. Therefore, with the closing silver spot today at $13.38 per oz., I think if they are sold on ebay, they will probably fetch between $ 13.50 to $ 15.00 per coin plus postage. Depend on how nice the coin is. If you send them in to PCGS for grading at "bulk" (by the roll) and each comes back as MS69, I think each will fetch around $25 to $28 a piece. But strange thing can happen in ebay, somebody may be looking for the 1998 and may be willing to pay a premium. Now if they are spot-free, you may be get higher price and make sure you stress the fact (being spot-free).

The tougher year of raw silver eagles found on ebay beside 1996 are: 1997, 2000, 1993, 1994.

It is not easy at all to find spot-free PCGS MS69 for the first three. Quite a bunch available for 1994.

    Did somebody hijack Anaconda's account?

Adrian, they are worth $1 (look on the coin and you will see that denomination). Since I like you a lot, I will help you out and buy them for $1.75 each (I saw that someone said the TV guys were selling Ikes for $1.60 and I believe these should get a little premium over that).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    Just bullion

it ranges to 1.50 over spot if bought from a dealer to just spot if you get lucky on ebay.

about 13.30 to 14.80 right now.

I paid $15 for mine. I've been assembling several sets of the UNC silver eagles because they're pretty, cheap, and easy to obtain. I've bought rolls, singles, lots, etc. In my experience, only 3 dates carry a premium: 1986, 1988, and 1996. I usually spend $20 for the '86, about $18 for the '88, and $45 for the '96. I get quite a few spotted ones, which I don't put in the dansco. Surprisingly, quite a few of these do make it without spotting. When I build up my "discards" high enough, I'll probably list the whole lot on the bay.

The consensus I got for the raw 1998 was $14.50-$14.75

The only premium on a '98 is that which is associated with it being a Silver Eagle.

Deal with lots of them here as bullion and I'd say you can expect 25 to 60 cents over spot depending on where they go and if you take your time moving them. Bay of E is a tough way to go with the fees. You'll sell for more, but lose it right back to the bay and paypal.

It also depends on how many, how they are packaged, etc. I buy small amounts, loose ones here and there at spot all the time. I also pay quite a bit better than that for larger quantities in mint packing.

If you have a decent sized lot and they are still in the full Mint Tubes, you'll do best. Don't know how many you have, but I'd be interested as I buy them all the time. Shoot me a PM if you like and I'll give you a quote. I've done a lot of business with board members over several years now and can list a batch of references if that concerns you.

    Hope that helps.
