They didn't mention the Smith and Wesson security system or my Sig Sauer deterrent system. Not to mention the old 5 round pump system.

Thanks for starting this thread. You scared the hell out of me and my wife, after viewing the news segment on lock bumping.

The good news is that I changed all our house locks to Schlage brand about five years ago. Apparently Schlage brand locks cannot be opened with the lock bumping method.image

Or the Remington 870 Wingmaster with slugs system.

Medeco locks look pretty good, too.

Schlage Primus are bump-resistant but not the ordinary Home Depot Schlage tumbler locks.

Our alarm may not be very intimidating in appearance (unless you're a squirrel), but it makes a lot of noise if so much as a twig falls on the roof of the house. image

I really hate seeing information like this aired in the mainstream media! Though the media is making them out to be, bump keys are not a new burglary tool and have been used by more sophisticated burglars for years. The media feeds on this sort of thing and loves to alarm the public as a way to increase ratings. Of course the media will claim this information is being provided as a "public service" or other such nonsense.

Unfortunately, these types of clips can also serve as a "how to" session for criminals who would otherwise be unaware of the techniques shown. You can bet the sale and manufacture of bump keys has increased significantly as of late and will be followed shortly by an increase in residential burglaries where no sign of forced entry is obvious.

As has been mentioned above, this technique has been around for a very long time. The 'advertising' does not help, however, it is also not quite as simple as some would make it seem. It does take some practice.. for those of us that have tried it, as I have, I can assure you - it did not work on the first try... it does take a bit of 'feel' and patience. That being said, it is no doubt being tried by those who would procure our private belongings. Security is an individual responsiblity.. and multiple layers are the best answer. Cheers, RickO

I'll put up my Ross against those other names any day. He's my banker. And I get my sdb's free.

    I prefer the Ruger/Mossberg/Remington/H&R system

Good call Keets! The only time I was ever burgled was when my wife and I were at work!

Burglar alram alerted the neighbor and scared the heck out of the burglar! Only thing he got was what he had in his pocket.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
