Yet another eBay lesson learned - only lost shipping costs though
Remember this thread?
I wondered in the above thread why I was the only bidder for a PCI F12 1875 20¢ for $355 which was $5 behind bid. Everything looked on the up-and-up with the coin in the auction and I received it promptly. First, I must say that everything went very well with Ernie, I have nothing negative to say about him. He has too many coins to keep at hand at all times and unfortunately he cannot answer any specific questions about his coins. So, I took a chance and won this coin. Well, I promptly returned it and it's back up on eBay again.
Why did I return this piece you might ask? If you look at his auction picture you really don't see much of anything negative about the coin. The only thing you might notice is a small area on Liberty's leg that has a tiny dark patch with a piece of white over it. My gut instinct said that that white thing looked like it was on the holder. Much to my surprise, it wasn't. Below is a picture I took through my loupe (just a lucky shot, I'm no pro at these kind of things) which shows what the coin looks like in that spot. It almost looks like a small piece of glue is holding on a patch. It also could be absolutely nothing. But, the problem is, everytime I'd look at that coin, I'd notice that strange area and wonder what's underneath. It looks like you could take it off with a fingernail if you broke the coin out of the holder. But, for all we know there a real problem under there. I simply didn't want to own that coin. I'm out about $14 in shipping for this lesson.

Very nice for the grade with no defects
(Sorry for you though, glad you didn't get stuck with it)
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>Did you tell him why you were returning it? He says:
Very nice for the grade with no defects >>
I thought about doing that. I mean, I really wanted to. I held back though. First, he says that his return policy is no questions asked and I tested that. Well, he didn't ask me why I was returning it. Second, do you really think that he'd change the description based on what I thought about the coin? Perhaps one day I'll want to win something else from him. I didn't want to pose as a problem bidder. And, yes, I think other bidders should be aware of that "defect" (or whatever it is) but I don't think Ernie will care. Hey, it's in a "good" holder, right?
I wonder about PVC

Perhaps--maybe he never noticed it, or didn't think much of it. That said, there are times when sellers will take a return with no questions asked, but if a problem they missed is pointed out (and confirmed in hand), they may also refund shipping.

<< <i>Maybe that other green stuff rather than PVC? I do not think it is a bad looking coin. How was the rest of the coin? >>
The rest of the coin looked fantastic. I didn't notice any PVC.
As far as letting him know that there's foreign material on his coin....well, I noticed it within 60 seconds of getting it in hand. I'm sure he noticed it and wrote it off as no biggie. And, may it is no big deal. I do wonder about the shipping costs possibly being refunded, though. I'll have to ponder that.
