It's only $4,900 and 746 miles difference ????????????

OK, hold on to your hats, this story brought to you by the inept employees at your US postal service.

I sold (2) $100 W Platinum coins, unopened ready for 1st strike submittance to a board member here. They were packed and sent US Registered mail, the most secure, RIGHT?

They were supposed to go to Birmingham Alabama, they were delivered to a different Name, a different address and a DIFFERENT STATE!

WTF!!!!!!

So I get the message from my buyer who is rightfully losing it, wondering how the hell this happened? image I have been on the phone all day with the Michigan POst office and I have been screaming how the hell did this happen? image

The postmaster up there is screaming how the hell did this happen. image

I could partially understand if the address in Michigan was abc 123 the same as the address in Birmingham Alabama, but the address did not even match./ It was xxx 456, so how does this registered package insured for $4900 get to the wrong state, without detection, then get delivered to the wrong address without detection.

I am starting to believe I am cursed.

Anything sent registered is up for grabs in my humble opinion. I have sent 3 packages registered in the
past year. Two got there but one just plain disappeared completely. Yep, nobody can tell me where it
even went to. It shows that I handed it over to them here in Las Vegas. But, that's it. No explanation!
Maybe I should be more forgiving as it's only one out of three that got snagged. I think it must be a
carrot dangling in front of some employee's nose and once in a while (33%) it gets chomped on.

I dont' think FED EX is something we can use unless we have
our own insurance. The USPS has paid me and others that I have
done business with when packages have been lost. As a matter of
fact more than the contents were worth and because they felt
obligated to do so. It's too bad and unfortunate you lost or had
the packages misdirected, but it is not the norm. Hope all works out.

I've always been a little suspect of how the PO, puts big ol' insured and registered stickers on the package. That's just inviting a dishonest person to steal it. I think they would be better served if that info. was coded in the postage mark or a barcode that could be matched to your reciept.

There is no 100% safe way. My opinion is that Registered mail is the best option.

I've had a company credit card lost by UPS, I've had $5000 packages lost by FedEx. I've had PCGS lose $4000 worth of coins by shipping USPS Express Mail. I personally haven't had a Registered Mail package lost, but obviously others have.

I don't know of a better option other than handing it to the appropriate person face to face.

Sure they money it is insured for will be covered, but what about when these coins start going for 4, 6 or 10 K each.

    Major bummer.

I know it is a small fraction of items shipped this way that get lost, but this is 2 of my packages in the last 3 months.

    Crazy.

The US Mint shipped me some W-Platinums 3 weeks ago using Registered Mail
and I still haven't received them!!!

TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE....the Tracking #'s provided by the Mint
are invalid and my Post Office can't track the package!

The difference is someone could be in very deep doodoo after losing this package.

As for the shipment from the Mint, one for me took at least 2 weeks--they're very, very slow.

Feel bad for this carrier. First they got the wrong state, but then an address that is not even close in wording or numbers, then they delivered it and had a person sign it whose name is not even in the same language.

I don't know. I kinda like it inside my PO Box. image

Actually I do get some coins delivered at home, but I can understand that for security reasons a lot of people don't want their physical addresses known, so they will only accept coin shipments to the PO Box. For that, the USPS *is* a monopoly.

Last year I had a coin I bought left on the doorstep of women in another state with a different last name by UPS. The woman was nice enough to call UPS to pick up the coin and I finally got it after a 3 weeks wait.

    I am new here -
can someone pleze , in plain English : explain to me in simple terms

If a registered package is insured up to 25k automaticly by sending said package Registered
, then why must I buy additional insurance against loss ??
Even postal employees cant give me a straight answer !!
They will say IF you don`t pay the additional insurance fee for declared value and
the Registered package is lost - THEN YOU RECIEVE NO MONEY`S BACK !!!!!!!!

You have to pay for insurance, it is not insured automatically up to 25k.

All is well that ends well.

My buer just called with good news. The package arrived unopened to him. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been all over the Michigan post office all morning about how could they possible do this.

Well lo and behold my buyer is VERY happy, and I am releaved that the stress is over.

The postal carrier in Michigan is probably happiest.

    A happy ending, YEAH!!!

Registered travels separately from other USPS mail. The whole point of the labeling is to ensure that it travels under lock and key.

Everyone's got an anecdote that makes a carrier look bad. I got back from a trip and found out from tracking that Fedex had driven my package out every morning in the wrong neighborhood in the wrong state for six working days in a row. "Could not locate recipient" showed over and over again in the history. I was irate, but as with the OP, the problem was solved with a couple of phone calls.

Believe me I am thrilled. I bet the carrier is too, because it showed that the carrier delivered it, to the wrong, person, place and state. So they are now off the hook.

I feel your pain. The PO lost 50 ASE's I sold to a buyer. The Eagles were insured, customer wasn't home, so the mailman left a notice. The coins made it back to the PO, and mysteriously vanished. I have been waiting for a month for a response from St. Louis. A rep told me, it could take as long as 6 months before I'm refunded. So now I eat hundereds of dollars, somebody must of had a good day, free silver yahoooooooooooo. I'm glad to see your coins made it to the right place. image

Not sure, and I don't really care. I am just gald my buyer is glad and we don't have to wait months for the money.

I have been waiting 2 months for a member here to return my money on another lost coin, but thankfully it is only like $85

I sure could use the cash though.
