Roosie guys (that doesn't sound right, does it?)....

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,435 ✭✭✭✭✭
What do you consider to be the KEY dates/MM/grades in the series?
Particularly the '46-'64 years.....

One can look at the mintages but you guys have quite the knowledge so I figured I would ask in case there are other factors at play......

TIA!

I will name 2 that instantly come to mind, assuming you are speaking about FB and they are:

    1963-P/D

I actually know the clads better. image

Lets put it this way. Heritage has something like 1500 roosevelts on their site and not a single 1963P that is graded by PCGS that is FB or otherwise. DLRC has not had one since I have been looking for the date. Begging on the BST forum has not produced any results. Want It Now on Ebay has been futile. Hmmmm....

In the FB silvers I rate them as far as rarity goes by how many have been
graded in all grades in Full Bands. I listed the top 10 below in order of rarity.
If you are just looking at MS67FB the order changes. Either way you will see
that the 63-P&D are in the top 3. Another key note is that 70% are Philadelphia
    mints.

And if you are not looking for MS67FB, surprisingly, some of the same coins remain at the top of the list:

    53P, 59P, and 63P are all low pop non-band MS67's.

    Thanks guys!

Out of all the coins in all the series, one thing I have noticed is that the Roosie guys are the most tightknit and NICE I have seen!

Reason I asked about these is that someone (Nick shall remain nameless image ), kind of sparked an interest for me in a set to do with my son with a raw set.

I like doing coins with my son since they are almost all his anyway, for something for us to do as he grows (I do keep my year set a few other coins that are mine...though most will still end up being his), and I think a Roosie set will be fun for us. Not sure if we will go FB or not (most likely will) but I really like a lot of what I have seen posted here for pics (moreso than nickels, and the lincolns go back way too far and get too expensive with RD, RB, BN, etc).

So, I hope you all have your stuff and there are still leftovers on ebay for some of us image

Just as is done with the name "Roosevelt" some pronounce "Roosie" like in "roaster", and some say "roosie" like in "rooster". I've always used the latter, but I hear the former quite a bit.

    Thanks Ken.
"Santa" Nick already took care (a few months ago) of the raw sets from '46-'64 and that is what got my son and I on this.
We took out the album over Xmas to show to some family friends and they loved it. My son was very proud of what his "friend" had sent him. The adults were suitably impressed as well as some of them had cool toning.

So, we are looking for post '64 roosies raw, but the post was trying to figure out which coins are hardest for a registry set as I am thinking I will work with him on building himself one. Will be slow going but I am thinking of getting a few of the tougher ones out of the way early.

If you have some unc post '64 roosies that you don't want around (all I have found in about $1000 of roll searching so far have been mid-low grade circs), we won't be offended image
(that wasn't the purpose of the post, though it just underscores what I already said about the Roosie collectors here!)

I had no trouble finding those dates listed here in "my" grade MS66-67, but I have yet to fill the 91-D hole and my 69-P is a 63 and it was given to me or I wouldn't have it!image

Good luck to you and your son or whatever you decide to collect.

    Jon

edited to say my grade is also no bands.

Hmmmm.....from the looks, I don't think he will be doing the 67FB ones image
I do know, that when I pulled out the album, he likes the oned ones the best image
So, we will be looking for those (I just wish he was old enough to pay for them himself image )

    Larry,
Unless you know something I don't the 58P is a pop 0 at NGC in 67FT. I made half the
66FT pop trying for the 67FT.

    Ron,
Consider this. A silver 67FB set will cost between $40K and $55K to assemble given
enough time. Over time you could probably put together a very nice toned 65FB/66FB
set for $5K - 8K. A lot more coins to choose from in this range too. Also a lot of fun
making some of those coins yourself.

Opps, your right Nick. I goofed image, it is a pop 0 at 67FB

    Let me try that again.

Thanks Nick. And, even without knowing the price range (which is higher than I thought) I had come to the conclusion that Jr and I wouldn't be gunning for the top spot, but rather, the fun spot image
Yes, I would like us to make some ourselves. I need to get up to speed on grading them though (they are tiny little things image ) before I do, so I will need to purchase a few graded ones to learn.

  • Hmmm... I can't get into the Population Area right now, but it seems to me the 56-p should be somewhere on this list??

    edited to add:
OK, I see the 56 comes in at #11. Seems there are a lot of MS65FB 1956's pushing up the totals.

Interesting that the 1956 in 65 FB is listed at $135, while the lower pop 57 and 58 are still listed at $30-$35.
