Post ideas for the next group baseball wax rip?

Ok started this thread since it seems like alot of us are up for another rip but cant seem to agree so lets post our ideas and I will look into it with bbce and post some costs maybe we can come to a consensus that will get enough people.

I started a thread for another complete 80s rip 80-89topps fleer donruss ud cost would be 69 for 32 packs

a few have asked about a possible 77-85 topps baseball rip cost for that would be aprrox 75-80 per person for 9 packs

theres lots of possibilities just wanted to start a thread to get some ideas that 36 people could agree on to make the next rip happen

    would it be too much trouble to find out how much more it would be per person if you were to go back another year or 3 or 4?

    I'd go with a late 70's/early 80's rip rather than another 80's rip.
    * '72 BASEBALL #15 100%
    * C. PASCUAL BASIC #3
    * T. PEREZ BASIC #4 100%

    * DRYSDALE BASIC #4 100%
    * MAGIC MASTER #4/BASIC #3
    * PALMEIRO MASTER/BASIC #1
    * '65 DISNEYLAND #2
    * '78 ELVIS PRESLEY #6
    * '78 THREE'S COMPANY #1

  • I like the cost range of $75-150 ... that's why my vote is 78-85.

    we'd get:

    Topps: 78-85
    Donruss: 81-85
    Fleer: 81-85

    By my count, that's 34 packs of pack-ripping pleasure!

  • Ok blind thats good I should have had 2 parts to the question what years and whats your price range. maybe we could get 18 people to do 2 packs each 77-85 or so on. 2 packs each would be about 150 we would only need 18 people which seems easier to get then 36 .
  • I missed the 75 mini case break and looks like others did as well. I would love to get into that if it happens again. I would take atleast 12-16 packs!

    What a way to spend a bonus check at the end of a qtr!...LOL

    I'm only interested in years that actually have the chance of pulling something worth more than the cardboard it's printed on.

    Add some 75 minis? you got a taker above me for quite a few of those.

    my idea is that we do the years that matter...for example... 1977 topps, 1978 topps 1 pack each. Then go to 1980 for the henderson at 1 pack each. Next...lets do 1982 topps for a ripken. 1983 topps for a shot at boggs, gwynn, sandberg. For 1984 lets do just Donruss..since that was the big set and best looking of the year. 1985 we can do topps, donruss, and fleer again. Lets stop there

    i count
    9 sets.

    so sets like 1982/1983/1985 topps - donruss - fleer and 1984 donruss we should try to get 2 packs of each year.

    so 15 packs.

    how does that sound?

    Loth

    ps- i left donruss out prior to 84 and fleer prior to 85 cause i think they are butt ugly LOL - just my opinion.
  • Lothar,

    GREAT IDEA!

    I'm with you 100% ... perhaps we could add a 77 Topps to your lineup?

    -Tom

    PS I do like 83 Fleer .... I kind of like that simple, tan design.

    that's a pretty good idea Loth.

    wanna add the 75 minis or have them first come first serve for a set price after tsalem buys his dozen?
  • what about the 79 topps loth for the ozzie and 82 and 83 fleer and donruss theres ripken boggs sandberg and gwynn in alll of them that would be good pulls?

    As for going back farther goos I think 77 is about as far back before it geets too expensive. we could throw in 75 minis but thats 40 a pack just for the 75

    I would prefer a later 70s and early 80s wax rip. 1978-1985, give or take a year or two on each end.

    B
  • I would REALLY like to include '79's .... being I'm a huge Ozzie fan.

    Also, I have NEVER busted anything older than '80 Topps. I started collecting at aged 10 in '86 --- so it'd be fun to get some of those later 70's packs in the rip.

    Gary, what would the cost be for the following:

    Topps: 77/78/79/80/82/83/85
    Donruss: 84/85
    Fleer: 83/85

    I would personally be STOKED about this rip.

    I'd also throw out of the idea of two of the 83-85 boxes and one of the rest.

    could we also do a 33 goudey?image

    I'd consider 1-2 packs per year of 78-85, +/- a year or two.

    Does it have to be only baseball?

    I'm guessing that for $150-$200 a man, I bet we could do:

    Base: Topps 78, 79, 80, 82, 83 and 85. Fleer 83 and 85. Donruss 84.
    Football: 1981, 1984 and 1986
    Basketball: 1987 Fleer.
    Hockey: Take your pick within the "budget".

    Now that sounds better to me anyway. Lot's of opportunities for great HOF/RC.
  • Bob ...

    wow --- now you're talking!

    a "multi-sport" rip would be awesome.

    I'd love to see '85 Topps Hockey added to what you've listed above.... chase that Lemieux RC and Yzerman second year card.

  • Ok heres some option to consider

    1 pack each 77 thru 85 topps and 82 thru 85 donruss and fleer thats 17 packs per lot would roughly be 100 per person shipped

    or leave out 77 and start with 78 would be about 80 pp

    personally i'd like to include 77 but some people have a budget

    Gary,

    If we removed the 81/84 Topps, 82/83 Donruss, 82 Fleer ---- could we use those savings for something else? Maybe an 84 or 86 football box? Or an extra box or two of some of the sexier baseball years?

    Sounds good Bob the only thing I worry about is the higher the cost gets the harder it is to find enough people to buy in and pull it off.
  • Gary,

    Let's come up with 3 options .... at 3 different price points. Take a vote and be done with it. You've put a TON of work into these things and we could have you running around 1000 different ways trying to figure this out.

    We could always go with the "other options" after we complete the first rip.

  • Thanks Blind
    I have fun organizing these rips and working with steve its hard to make 36 people completly happy and want in. I Think if we put in somemore input i'll take everyones advice and put three options thogether and start a poll thread and let that ride for a day or 2 and then we can go with that and hope we get enough.

    The one other thing you guys need to tell me is what kinda budget we should go for?
  • BobSBobS Posts: 1,738 ✭✭
    I'll wait for the poll. Getty 'up.
  • Gary,

    Sounds perfect. I'm in no matter what and can't wait for this rip.

    I will even go on record now (beating out Arny, which is RARE):
    I'm 36% complete on my 84 Donruss registry set in PSA 9 or better.

    Any and all help once the bust commences would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm happy to return the favor in any way I can.

    Man, I love this board.

    Some good ideas here........ personally I'd like to stay below $100 for this rip. 77 or 78-85 leaving out the 81 & 84 Topps and 81-82 or 83 Fleer and Donruss sounds fine to me. Inserting 81 or 84 Football and/or some hockey is also fine.

    I think the 3 option poll is the way to go now Gary.

    100 bucks and under and I am in. dont care as long as it isnt anything new.
    I loved the 75's. I got WAY OC cards but man it was awesome.
  • Started a new thread with 4 options hope its enough to make 36 of us happy and get to rippinimage

    So check it out and vote. Blindflyer was right we could go for weeks and have 1000 options its hard to make everyone happy. But as a group we seem to have lots of fun with these rips. From my experience setting up other rips we have 3 major groups 1 those who look for certain years brands 2 pack collectors who have no intetion of ripping and 3 those of us who just like to participate and rip. So in every rip im sure some would have changed something about it but the fact is how much fun we have and that we can come together as a group and do these rips. Trust me I still hang out at the beckettboards once inawhile and those guys are jelous that we can come together over here and pull this off. they never seem to be able to do it over thereimage

    So hopefully we can come to a consensus and rip againimage
