Serious Merc question from a Roosie guy!

I own 2 Mercs a 1937 and 1944-D MS67FB. Both common dates with scores in 8FB.
My question is regarding the bands. Now on the Roosie, the problem area is on the right side of the bottom bands. On the Mercs, where is the problem area? I'm guessing the middle bands, just left of the center.
Am I right?
I sure would like to know.

Mercs have to have all 3 bands, but the top and bottom bans are (almost) always there. They do not have to be rounded just seperated. They can be almost flat as long as there is a line (complete) seperating them. And if there is a hit that bridges them, it's no bands. I had a 16-D in 62 that was struck FB, but somewhere in the process it took a hit in the middle that brigded the bands making them not full.
Paul, don't get caught in the full band thing in Mercs unless you have REALLY deep pockets. Some of them are crazy stupid MOOOOOOON money. The 45-P is just one.
Jon
Even though PCGS gives full bands on flat bands fully separated, some people will pay a premium for the fully rounded split bands. Fully rounded of course is better.
This dime is a just missed, and there are some premiums over no band for just missed, too.

Jon, I own 2 Mercs and was only asking a question. As far as getting caught up in the FB craze...I happen to like a fully struck coin...whether or not it has FB will remain to be seen.

I like fully struck coins too. You just have to decide where you want the detail the most. I prefer hair detail more than the bands on a Merc.

I've looked at the Hair detail on Mercs in all MS grades and the bust seems to be the same to me. I just can't guage the difference like on a Roosie. I have the David Lawrence complete guide to Mercury Dimes book. Guess I have to use it.
Thanks Jon!

That is a 66 nobands, but is a beautiful coin and as good as full strike as you will find. Look at the hair and the bands are almost there.
I'm sure that coin went for more that the $1,350 as listed by PCGS, but the FB price on that coin is $47,500. And what is sad is that a 19-S with full bands may or may not look as good as fclouds. Which would you rather have?
I would take fclouds in a heartbeat, and spend the other 40 some thousand on other coins I need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a beautiful coin with execelent(sp) detail.

Nope......
It is a great no band coin and a excellent example of how a collector can save 40 grand with a astute purchase.
