I use Auction Sentry. It's easy to use and I've never had any problems with it.
I've had great transactions with people like: drwstr123, CCC2010, AlanLastufka, Type2, Justlooking, zas107, StrikeOutXXX, 10point, 66Tbird, and many more!

For cheap auctions, AuctionSniper works best. Once they get above about $40-$50, AuctionSniper becomes too expensive and PhantomBidder is a better option.
<< <i>if your computer is on all the time <a href="http://www.jbidwatcher.com">www.jbidwatcher.com</A> is a free software that I've used successfully for years. >>
Well, technically not all the time, just when you want to snipe. I leave mine on all the time since I snipe quite a bit and I'm sure I would forget to turn it on. This software loads on your local machine and the snipe goes out from your computer, not from the server of a bid service. --Jerry
I've used Auctionstealer for years. They allow unlimited snipes at 3 sec before auction close. The cost is $34.99 per six months. The huge value to me in sniping, besides the better prices, is being able to change my mind if I find something better, or just something better to do with the $$$.
I have used PhantomBidder for more than a year and I am very happy with it. However, I once missed/lost an auction because I change my password in eBay, but not in PhantomBidder. Remember that you need to keep your ebay password updated in your sniper program.

Auction Sentry Deluxe is the same way and is also a great program.
auctionsniper has pissed me off for the last time. Instead of eight second snipes, it backed one out to 30+ seconds today and cost me a win. Will be trying phantombidder next.
I have tried several of them, finally settled with Auction Sentry. Only once has it failed to bid on time, but i think it was due to network problems more than the software.
There aren't that many coins on eBay I can't live without. I agree that a snipe bid is usually necessary to win a decent coin listed there. If you only need one snipe at a time, I recommend the free (public) snipe utility at www.vrane.com. This consistently puts in your best shot seven seconds before auction close Fees for multiple simultaneous snipes are also reasonable.

Bidnnapper Sniper 15 day FREE Trial
<< <i>I use bidnapper, and they give a free trail. I have used it for over 3 years now. Very inexpensive, item price does not matter: >>
Not too bad for subscription, but their bid lot pricing blows goats. PhantomBidder is way cheaper.
<< <i>Reliabilty is the key. Read the stats. Did I mention try it free? >>
AuctionSniper and PhantomBidder are just as reliable. And they both offer free trials as well.

Why does the computer need to be on all the time?

Agreed.
Phantombidder is da bomb. Saved me craploads of $$$ over Auctionsniper. Never failed on me either.

Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.
The cost will depend on your bidding style.
In the last 8 years on eBay I have 250 purchases to 1000 sales so my expense for an auction sniper is minimal.
I purchased $10 worth of credits in 6/03 and then again in 9/05
4 years and $20.
I suggest you analyze your sniping needs and compare programs.
