opinions sought: Original seated quarter?

Holdered by one of the big three as XF45, the obverse certainly looks crusty enough, but does the 'clean' centeral reverse give one pause? Also does XF45 seem accurate:

I'd call it 40 not 45 but that's quibbling. Nice enough coin if it complements your type set

If you like it, buy it. But as others have pointed out, there are likely better examples to be had.
Prior to this becoming a heralded "1-year type coin" in the later 1970's, this date commanded little respect. There's no shortage of decent coins to pick from.

My, we are quick to insult one another aren't we. The OP says it is in a TPG holder. So much for that!
I agree with the first part of this reply, though. That coin is not very nice. Between the reverse rims and some speckly stuff on the obverse, I am also a little bit concerned about maybe some environmental damage -- micropitting, that kind of thing -- maybe what gave someone occasion to clean it in the first place.
I would hold out for a better one. XF is a good value grade for that coin. $150 and some looking ought to land you an excellent example.
